I think rather there is a whinging characteristic of some national groups which leads people to surmise they are depressed when in fact they are only trying to make the rest of us happy folks depressed. Constant griping and crying about life and the rotten hand they have been dealt if done enough makes everyone in a bad mood. Look at the income letter threads. One day a grumpy and unpleasant person came ashore . Life was simple and cheap and the locals did not particularly care about him. He kind of liked that and invited some of his similarly minded friends to come. They in turn told others that this was indeed paradise for the disenchanted. And so the numbers grew, the happy ones got old or died, and the miserable ones flourished. After all, for some strange reason, misery loves company. Now go to sleep. I would suggest, though, that if you see someone teetering on the brink, threatening to throw themselves into the abyss, you let others do the talking.
