Well if it's for a 30 day visa you can get the bus from Krabi bus station to Satun province on the southern border. It's not expensive - 200 baht or so I think. When you get out in Satun high street you need a cab to immigration. The people there will help you - he waits for you as you walk across the Malay border and come back into Thailand. It might have been 600 baht return. The outpost is in a national park so it's a nice drive. I think I left Krabi at 11am and that was plenty time to do everything. The only thing was that the next bus out of Satun to Krabi was at 8pm so you don't get to Krabi until midnight nearly. You thern go by motorbike taxi to the river area in Krabi Town. I stayed in one of the guest houses on the riverside and it was fine. There are plently breakfast places around there and a few good book shops.
