The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration says it’s fully prepared if fires break out during Loy Krathong, when candles and fireworks will be everywhere in the city.

Somkiart Nonthakaw, deputy director of the BMA's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said all fire stations were ready and all 20,000 fire hydrants in the city had been checked to make sure they’re in working order.

Red kerbside fire hydrants would be the essential source of water for fighting fires, especially in narrow lanes barring access to fire engines.

Somkiart said the 20,000 hydrants around the city were inadequate in number, so his department would survey communities and work with the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority to install many more.

I am always amazed by this needing to check for a festival

They should be checked on a regular basis anyway.

On a slightly different subject I have never seen a fire engine here that has ever got a coat of polish once commissioned. They all look dull & unkept
