Worries float away...

Every year, on the full-moon night of the 12th month in the Thai lunar calendar, millions of people across the country come out to release decorative floats in ponds or waterways to ask the River Goddess for forgiveness for the wrongs they have done in the past year.

Many also believe their bad luck will also flow away with their “krathong”, and in order for this to happen, they leave a few coins or their fingernails in the float. The festival is celebrated in different ways in different corners of the Kingdom. For instance, in the North people release candlelit lanterns in the air, while in Tak province, locals release their krathong together, so they all flow in one long line down the river or canals. This day is also marked in neighbouring countries, such as Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia

If the krathong are made properly, the materials are biodegradable.

As usual, just a load of superstitious mumbo-jumbo from the past when people understood nothing. The mountain god will be displeased next.

I dont think much of superstition either but its culture. Thats why thais are the way they are.

If everyone was just like you life would be miserable.

Any different from Christian acts and homage to an imaginary person-god-spirit that lives in the sky?
