BANGKOK, 26th November 2018 (NNT) - Public health organizations have signed a memorandum to meet the country’s HIV reduction goals.

The National Health Security Office, the Department of Disease Control, the Thai Red Cross Society, and networks of HIV and AIDS patients have signed a memorandum drafted for the upcoming World AIDS Day on December 1st.

The agencies agreed to lay the framework necessary to fulfill the country’s 2030 HIV & AIDS reduction goals, which consist of reducing new transmissions to less than 1,000 cases per year, reducing related deaths to fewer than 4,000 per year, and to reduce cases of discrimination against HIV patients by 90%.

Secretary-General of the National Health Security Office Dr Sakchai Kanjanawatana revealed that for the 2019 fiscal budget, the government has allocated 3 billion baht to HIV and AIDS prevention and care. Of the amount, 200 million has been distributed to local programs.
