Went for a swim and lunch in the Areca Lodge last week. Mostly farangs with their farang wives, a few farangs with their Thai "girlfriends. Large group of young Indians spread round the pool and started acting like complete idiots. Really annoying. Most people, us included, packed up and left the pool area. Sometimes one has to move on elsewhere. Sorry about the Areca though.

And each hotel site is allocated a certain number of rooms to market and fill. Yes the Agoda and Booking .com are more expensive than if you called and booked direct. Such is life ???? If anything Thailand's visa rules are easy for tourists. 30 day stamp for many countries, easy tourist visas. E-visa would be nice though. Easy, really? Have you looked at Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia visa rules? Try being under 50, and being a tourist more than 6 month. See how easy it is, compared to 3 neighboring countries. joecoolfrog
I have been coming to Thailand for 20 years , will no doubt continue because I have made friends and frankly im too lazy to start over. However its far from cheap these days and unlike before I would never now highly recommend it to others. The reasons for its decline have been well documented on this thread , were I 40 again I would certainly not choose to holiday in Thailand . Are they making it more easy or more difficult this month - I can't keep up! Malaysia offers, I believe, 90 days on arrival and has done for years without any problems that I know of. Why is Thailand so paranoid? Not paranoid. Incompetent.

Then I think you will understand what was being said. I know exactly what was being said , just not relevent to this thread. There are actually travel related definitions distinguishing between 'tourists ' and ' visitors ' but lets not get pedantic. Suffice to say that anybody who stays for an extended period and does not spend most of their time visiting 'touristic ' attractions, is classified as a visitor. whitemouse
There is a thread right here, in TVF PattayaNews section about Beach Rd. Some say street is very quiet, some say it's busy. I walked through Beach Rd, recorded my walk, YT video is in that thread, on last page. People said that because it is Sunday night, we should expect that tourist have left. I never knew tourist leave Sun night. To make sure, I did same thing on Wed night, right now, around 8pm. Below is what Beach Rd and Walking St Wednesday around 8pm. Took a baht bus ride from Central to Walking St tonight, Wednesday night 8pm: Then walked quickly through about half of Walking St. Wed, Nov 28, 8.15pm. Does it seem busy? 8pm is very early, no doubt. Beach Rd seems very quiet, few tourists from India, that's about it. Zero Chinese groups on Beach Rd, nothing to take photos of, before going back to the bus.

thaibeachlovers
Perhaps the word is out that Pattaya is no longer the place to go to. I used to love Pattaya, and stayed there many times, but the last couple of times made me change my mind on that. The traffic is horrible, the infrastructure is the same broken decrepitude it has been for the past couple of decades. Some pavements haven't been fixed for 30 years. Beach Rd floods after a normal shower because they can't work out how to drain water into the sea, the beach is vanishing, and everything is getting too expensive for the 10th rate experience one now gets in Pattaya. How different it all is to the first time I rode down Beach Rd in the 90s. Then I thought I'd discovered paradise. Since then, too many bad councils, too much greed has ruined it. Even the girls are a turn off, as they spend all their time looking at their phones, and none on potential customers. Can it be fixed- I doubt it. Bulldoze the whole place and start again, perhaps.
