Video: Don't stand there - what if I was a robber?, cop tells shop worker

A video posted to the Facebook  page of "Talung Krung Johnny Meu Prap" showed a man who claims to be a police constable approach a convenience store worker.

The cop - who is said to be constable Yuthaphon Srisompong - asks the employee why he is waiting in the shadows.

What if I was a robber? he tells him.

He advises the confused man - who is wearing a Big C shirt - that he should wait where it is light so it is not suspicious.

The cop asked people to share his video "because he cares and its a warning".

Gotta agree, he should have forgot about crime prevention and waited to see if the kid got mugged, murderded, then shot the assailant. And he has the hide to publicise what he did in the hope of warning others . Definitely the actions of a towering narcissist. He should be fired .

Yes, clearly the man in the easily identifiable ‘Big C’ shirt was a **** hair away from either committing a crime or being mugged and murdered himself. Thank god this copper helped  us all and publicized it for all to see. Would it be too much of a stectch of the imagination to think this copper saved this young man’s life? No more standing around In he dark for me. I’ll wait ‘til sunrise until I brave going outside.

Or......this wasn’t the man in the Big C shirt’s first rodeo and the copper should mind his own business.

Was probably waiting in the shadows out of sight from prying eyes for a secret after-work rendezvous with his mia noi without the wife's knowledge until his plans were inadvertently exposed by the do-gooder policeman.

Don't know what to think. Seems the coppers intentions were righteous, but maybe he should be actually patrolling rather than warning....

Police don’t actually patrol here, they are given a task to complete and that’s all they will do. Anyone who appears to be on patrol is either going somewhere to complete their task, on the take, or a fake policeman.

For once a Thai cop does something to prevent crimes and he does not charge for it and people complain about what he is doing.

That reminds me of the cops who are waiting for motorcycle riders who drive illegally over a bridge and when the riders are on the way down the police fines them.

It would be so much better to place a police officer or two at the entrance of the bridge because then the bikers wouldn't come up the bridge.

Now it happens that some riders make dangerous a U-turn on top of the bridge because they see the police on the way down. So in a way the police is responsible for making the situation more dangerous.

I think it would be great if we would have more police officers who try to prevent crimes - including giving advise to people.

On several occasions, especially in the throngs in BKK's Chinatown and Chatuchuk, I have been approached by cops and warned to watch out for my belongings and that fat wallet peeking out of my back pocket.  I appreciated the friendly warnings and made a point of moving my wallet to a front pocket whenever I was in a crowd.

Some of them were in uniform, others were in plain clothes.  It also gave me a sense that I was safer than I may have known, with a lot of undercover cops watching for thieves among the crowds.

In over 7 years of living in Thailand, I was never once victimized by thieves.  That, in spite of hanging out in a lot of dodgy looking places I'd have avoided like the plague back home.  While I deplore some of the Thai cops and their shakedowns, that tells me that there are a lot of them doing a pretty good job of keeping crime at bay.

Looks to me like this guy was doing a public service.  Kudos to him.

You have a young man who’s probably just finished work who is clearly visable in the picture. He’s probaly waiting for someone to pick him up. The very fact he looked ‘confused’ says a lot.

If you wanna go round giving strangers advice, go ahead. You might sometimes be told where to shove that advice as people don’t often like to be told what to do when they’re minding their own business not bothering anyone. People will probaly become quite irate when you do this with a camera and holding onto their arm. Copper or not.

Geez man you are the epitome of political correctness and sarcasm. Take a mirror look into it and say out loud, 'I love myself, today will be a better day!'

And why the need to report on such a banality as if this cop is going out of his way to do his duty?

Should be done on a regular basis without any media hype surrounding it.

If this is the way of doing things then dentists should be awarded medals for telling their patients to floss.
