Video: Terminal 21 staff attack taxi driver after he refuses passenger

Security staff at one of Bangkok's leading department stores attacked a taxi driver after he refused to accept a passenger.

Terminal 21 has admitted the melee happened outside their store but said that the taxi driver started it and he broke the rules.

Thai social media was abuzz with comment as the video of the fight was posted on a popular fan page, said Sanook.

Security personnel and others can be seen using fists, feet and a stick of some kind to attack the driver who responds in kind.

Eventually after about a minute he walks away from the scene at Asoke in Sukhumvit Road.

Terminal 21 issued a letter on Thursday saying that the incident happened on Wednesday at 4pm after a taxi driver (in cab ทห thor hor 468) refused to accept a passenger thus contravening their rules.

They stated that their rules are not to allow taxis who refuse passengers or who do not turn on the meter.

This is the law in Thailand but is frequently flouted.

Terminal 21 said that the matter of the fight that was started by the taxi driver was being dealt with according to their rules.

They apologized and said that measures would be put in place so that it would not happen again.

Sanook repeatedly referred to the shopping center not by its name but as "a famous one" though the area was clear and the letterhead on the apology said "Terminal 21".

No mention has been made by Sanook of police involvement or that of the Department of Land Transport.

    I think that the security guard needs a little more training in the use of his light sabre ????

  • If enforcing the rules doesn't work, try your fists, legs and sticks, and than apologizes and business as usual....don't you just love this country?...

The taxi driver is a big **** for a Thai and was well up for it. Not the first time, for sure. Took on 4 or 5 of them, some of them wearing helmets and still came out pretty well. Not on his own turf too.

TV verdict :

Taxi driver - guilty.

I guess the taxi driver said something the security guard didn't like. And that was obviously an opportunity to call the dog pack and fight the bad guy together with his mates.

I guess the good news is that there were not a couple of more taxis around at that time. Otherwise it could have easily escalated to one group fighting the other - including knifes, guns, iron tools, etc..

I see one guy has grabbed the usual appropriate available weapon to help in the attack, why didnt they simply tell him to move off if not willing to accept a passenger and ban him from being there again, fighting is easier for them I suppose

Normally it's the other way round so it's good to see them being whacked. They should put up a warning to drivers coming in next time.

Perhaps he will think twice, before refusing a fare next time, or refusing to use the meter. I run into these types in BKK, and just shine them on. There is always another taxi who will use his meter.

Doubt it. He seemed more than willing to fight them so it doesn’t look like his first rodeo.

It looked at the end like he was going to use the BTS to make his getaway. Even the taxi drivers know what works!

Yes.  The Chinese love a bit of ridiculous kung <deleted> fighting!

Think that the T21 staff got more of a lesson. I gave the win on points to the taxi driver. I'll bet he was from Issan, top bloke!

The taxi and driver will be banished to an ‘Inactive Position’

until things cool down. That will show him!

.......he refused to accept a passenger.......

The name must've confused him. He probably thought he was at the airport.

He should be declared as "Best Guard off the Year 2018".

If any Thai's have done anything good, they never name the Tom, Harry or Dick.

I should meet him first and secretively employ him to our office building for sure!

Each and every one of these so called security guards should be charged with assault and immediately dismissed........fat chance!!

Nice scene for the 20% influx of tourist arrivals

"Flouted" like many other laws.

LOS = Land of Smiles

LOF = Land of Flouts

To many taxi drivers who will not put the meter on. I just tell him to go on his way.  Tourists can help fight this if they don't get in the taxi even if he or she offers to switch the meter on. Plenty of more taxis to use.
