BANGKOK, 30 November 2018 (NNT) - The Department of Health plans to end the transmission of HIV and syphilis from mother to child by 2020.

Health Department Director General Phanphimol Wipulakorn said Thailand was awarded by the World Health Organization in 2016 for reducing maternal transmissions of HIV to less than two percent.

In 2018, only 1.68 percent was found and Thailand can maintain the quality of the operation to date. It was certified by the Global Validation Advisory Committee in Geneva, Switzerland, in June.

Thailand will be able to end the transmission of HIV and syphilis from mother to child by 2030 and to reduce it to less than one percent by 2020.

Another case of "same same but different"? Looks like the jobless Mr. He Jiankui found a new place to work. I wonder how much they pay him to make his science a Thai one.

The Chinese scientist He Jiankui claims to have changed the genetic makeup of twin sisters conceived by artificial insemination. In a video released on Youtube on Monday, the scientist from Shenzhen said that he had changed the DNA of a twin couple born a few weeks ago so that the two girls were protected from HIV infection.
The controversial research project on gene manipulation of embryos in China is closed. Deputy Science Minister Xu Nanping said Thursday the government told the team of scientists, who had allegedly manipulated the genetic makeup of twin girls, to stop their research. These are unacceptable and illegal.
