Growing Jamaica Cherry (Takop) from Seed

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I would like to grow 100 takop trees on my land.  I don't want to buy them cos that many will cost a good few thousand.  I already have a takop tree in my garden.  Anyone had any success growing them from seed?

How would I go about this?  Put a few berries in a little bag of soil and give water and sun, hoping for germination?  Or is there another way?

Thanks.  Total newbie.

I grew takop yak but the fruit was not nice at all.

You can grow cuttings i think so they produce a lot faster..

Any tips on growing cuttings?

I don't know this tree at all, but if you type in "grow trees from cuttings" on YouTube you'll find a  few good videos/tutorials on how to grow trees (in general) from cuttings. I haven't found one which deals specifically with Jamaica Cherry, but I guess the same technique can be used with all/most fruit trees. To improve your chances of success, try a few different ways and decide which works best for your fruit tree.
