When I was in the RAF in Germany the sleeping bags had a zip down the front and it was also possible to turn upside down and then have to call your mate to unzip you. The later model sleeping bags had a Velcro fastener which made it easier to get out of, especially if you kept your rifle in there with you.

Norwegians had one design with zipper holes for feet and arms. Eastern block/russians had as well.
