31 year old man dies in Isuzu MU-X crash at Sakorn Kasem
Picture courtesy of KhaoSod By Bright Choomanee A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of this morning when a 31 year old man driving an Isuzu MU-X crashed into a barrier at the Sakorn Kasem intersection, resulting in his death. The accident took place at 4am today, January 6, with investigators suspecting that the driver might have encountered something unexpected, causing him to brake forcefully but ultimately lose control. Police officer Worawut Piamsamut from Krathum Baen Police Station received a report about the accident beneath the flyover at the Sakorn Kasem intersection, where Phetkasem Road meets Phutthamonthon Sai 4 Road in Om Noi, Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon. Upon arrival, alongside medical personnel from Krathum Baen Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, they discovered an Isuzu MU-X registered in Songkhla. The vehicle was positioned across the road at the curve leading from Phetkasem Road to Phutthamonthon Sai 4 Road. Inside the car, they found the driver deceased, identified as 31 year old Thoranin. The forceful braking marks were evident on the road, indicating an encounter with an obstacle, and the front of the vehicle was severely damaged, with the radiator shattered and wheels detached. The barrier in the middle of Phetkasem Road, separating the inbound and outbound lanes to Bangkok, was also broken due to the impact. Initial investigations suggest that the deceased was driving from Phutthasakhon Road, intending to return home in the Nong Khaem area via Phetkasem Road. Instead of crossing the Sakorn Kasem flyover, the driver veered onto the parallel road to make a U-turn on Phetkasem Road. It is suspected that something prompted the driver to brake suddenly, leaving marks on the road, but he was unable to regain control, leading to a fatal collision with the barrier. Eyewitnesses were absent since the driver was alone in the vehicle, having departed from an entertainment venue and headed home. Relatives of the deceased confirmed this but no one witnessed the exact cause of the accident. Police plan to review CCTV footage from the area to determine the precise cause of the incident, reported KhaoSod. Following the initial autopsy, the body was sent to Siriraj Hospital’s forensic institute for further examination. Yesterday I ate at Fuji after a long time of not eating there. Who gets the 10%? Waiters?
Fuji quality has disappointed greatly while prices went the other way since I returned to LOS post-lockdown. Used to eat there far more pre-pandemic. My former favourite. I wondered if they'd sold off/changed management/called in the bean counters. Now I know thanks. Sad. I usually tip on top anywhere if it's an agreeable experience because I know waiting wages are abysmal and I also want to say thanks directly. It usually requires legislation like in the UK or Europe to ensure the outlet/restaurant doesn't claim the service charge for itself. That kind of legislation is unlikely in Thailand with its feudal structures. I know one mid-sized Thai hotel where the 2 owners take 66% of the service charge for themselves, and the remaining 33% goes between the ten staff. Those staff have NEVER had a bad trip report, and almost all glowing. And for those who don't care, don't be surprised if you find the staff mood you encounter is not as warm as you'd like - if you don't care about them, why should they care about you? There's your grub. Eat it and clear off. -

There was a court ruling atop the initial votes of the House and Senate: A majority of the Colorado Supreme court held that: "Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment,” Trump engaged in insurrection, court says: "The top Colorado court upheld the trial judge’s conclusions that the January 6 assault on the US Capitol was an insurrection and that Trump “engaged in” that insurrection. These are key legal hurdles that the challengers needed to clear before Trump could be removed from any ballot, largely because the text of the 14th Amendment doesn’t actually define an “insurrection” or spell out what it means to “engage in” insurrection." https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/colorado-trump-14th-amendment-12-19-23/index.html Then back to my original post, this was not the only adjudication. The House and Senate each voted by a majority vote to the same offenses. The federal case was successfully stalled from going to trial, but the evidence gathered exceeded what the House Select Committee had the ability to gather. Quoting the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution Section 3 Disqualification from Holding Office No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability. The disqualification is real, I've underlined the key words (no mention of conviction) and Americans saw Trump's past and ongoing "support for, comfort to" while putting the remedy Congress can supply in bold print. Congress is likely to duck their responsibility. My point is that until this is resolved, the ceremony planned for January 20th will be in violation of the law. I don't expect anyone to enforce it. ... A sad day for the rule of law. -
