Accident Missing Mother Found Dead in Drainage Pipe in Lampang
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A desperate search for a missing woman in Lampang ended in heartbreak after her body was discovered lodged in a drainage pipe, four days after she was last seen. The woman, aged 46, had been reported missing by her daughter, who made an emotional appeal on social media via the “Jaehom City” Facebook group. She had left her home in Pong Don Subdistrict, Jaehom District, Lampang Province, and never returned. On 24 June, a coordinated search was launched by the Lampang Rescue Association (Jaehom unit), forensic experts, officers from Jaehom Police Station and local district officials. The team combed areas along an irrigation canal near Ban Huai Sanao in the hope of locating the missing woman. At around 16:00, authorities were alerted to a body found stuck in a drainage pipe near Ban Wangsak in Jaehom Subdistrict. Rescue personnel and police investigators rushed to the scene and confirmed that the body was that of a woman. An initial examination revealed a head injury. The deceased was later identified by relatives as the missing woman they had been searching for. The superintendent of Jaehom Police Station, ordered the body to be transferred to Lampang Hospital for a full forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death. While investigations are ongoing, the community remains in shock at the outcome. The family, who had hoped for a safe return, are now left grieving and seeking answers. A dramatic and prolonged standoff unfolded in Nakhon Phanom province, after a mentally disturbed man barricaded himself inside his home, threatened to burn it down and fired multiple crossbow shots at law enforcement officers over several tense hours, before eventually fleeing under the cover of night. The incident began during the afternoon, in Moo 5, Ban Na Pho, Ban Phueng Subdistrict, Mueang District. The suspect, identified only as Mr. Nai, also known by the nickname “Tu”, 45, is the son of a retired police officer and a former military serviceman. He reportedly experienced a severe mental episode, during which he poured petrol around the home and began threatening to set it alight. Responding to emergency calls, local police led by Pol Lt Col Promsak Rattanadee, along with over 20 special operations officers and district officials, surrounded the two-storey house. Upon arrival, officers were met with a hail of crossbow bolts and improvised weapons thrown from the upper floor by the suspect, who remained inside and refused to surrender. Torrential rainfall complicated access to the building, and the suspect’s elevated position gave him a tactical advantage. Police reported that at least one window was shattered by crossbow fire. During the evening, in an attempt to subdue the man, police deployed tear gas into the residence. However, rather than calming him, the tactic intensified his aggression. Trained from his military background, the suspect retrieved the canister and hurled it back at the officers below, forcing them to retreat once again. As the situation escalated, Mr. Nai poured additional petrol throughout the home and shouted that he would ignite the house if police attempted entry. Fire and emergency response units were dispatched to the scene by the Ban Phueng Subdistrict Administrative Organisation as a precaution. As night fell, the man remained armed with a knife and crossbow, hurling verbal threats at officers and rejecting all negotiation efforts. His erratic behaviour and the threat of fire kept both authorities and local residents on edge well into the night. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the breakdown, but family members and local leaders suspect possible substance abuse or a psychological condition. A thorough mental health and criminal evaluation is expected once the suspect is located. After nearly eight hours of failed attempts to resolve the crisis peacefully, law enforcement made the decision to withdraw and reduce the visible police presence, in hopes of de-escalating the man’s rage. Relatives were allowed to approach the home in an attempt to calm him. Later local village leaders and residents cautiously entered the house, only to find it empty. Mr. Nai had fled the property unnoticed, despite earlier threats and heavy surveillance. Authorities confirmed that a fire had indeed been set but was fortunately brought under control before spreading. A manhunt is now underway as police and village leaders attempt to track down the fugitive. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have pledged a swift response should the suspect resurface or pose a renewed threat. The case remains under investigation.
