December 6, 20187 yr Do any of you celebrate Krit Mat anymore or have you decided to move away from this Western celebration? This year, I am getting back into it and the wife is keen also. Tree, lights outside, presents, Turkey, the lot. Do you get into it this time of year, if yes, why and if no, why? Merry Krit Mat to one and all. ????

December 6, 20187 yr Popular Post Absolutely! Tree, lights, balloons etc etc. We have a village party on the sunday before the actual day, all kids and grown-ups invited. Lots of food and alcohol is consumed (much brought by the attendees). Parents bring small prezzies for a Secret-Santa (prize draw). We top up prezzies for the really poor ones so there's no excuse not to come, but mostly the prizes brought are pretty OK - I love my Angry Birds pillow from last year. Kids use the pool whilst it's light (someone has to stay at least reasonably sober to act as life guard, usually my wife). Gets the village involved with the fat-farang, they know I don't bite and most even know my name. On the 25th roasted pig (turkey is expensive and pretty awful) with all the trimmings, just family. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

December 6, 20187 yr Yes, we do with a tree, lighting & decorations inside + a multi color laser light oscillating outside illuminating each tree & leaf almost like looking at snow..... We get, wrap presents & do candy canes, stockings for Santa's work..... No traditional meal though as we're usually travelling the next day toward family in Suphan Buri.....The full blown turkey meal thing just got lost upon the way.....

December 6, 20187 yr I'm not into religion so we don't bother with all the commercialized thing. Don't pray or go to church either. The only thing I wish for at this time of year is that if all the big malls must get in on the commercial act is that they invest in a tape with more carols on instead of ' jingle bells ' on a never ending loop.
December 6, 20187 yr Of course - even though we go back to the UK a few days before Christmas Day to spend with my Parents & Siblings with their family we still have a Christmas Tree *(and IKEA fake Special !)... with presents underneath... We also have an advent calendar for my son to open every morning... Its great seeing this buildup towards such a magical time for the kids... And... We'll be traveling back to the UK with an empty bag for my son to bring his presents back... It'll be his 5th Christmas he'll have a better understanding of what's going on, will remember it properly this time and will likely sweep us away with his excitement and enthusiasm... I'm looking forwards to it more and more as the time approaches.

In Paragon they play loads of different klitmat songs...but my thai christian friend has to work during christmas that's why i'm against it. Thai christians should have the right to be free during klitmat or they shouldn't have any klitmat tree's at all in the malls.

I just learned to make my own mincemeat with locally available ingredients so I can do mince pies. They came out fairly well if a bit more orangy tasting than I expected. That's about my lot for Xmas. No gifts, I don't believe in encouraging greed in children. Edited December 9, 20187 yr by BritManToo
