December 7, 20187 yr Nov consumer sentiment index drops BANGKOK, 7th December 2018 (NNT) - Agricultural product price declines, an oil price increase as well as the U.S.-China trade war have resulted in a continuously lower consumer sentiment index, the Center for Economic and Business Forecasting (CEBF) has announced. The center reported that the consumer sentiment index in November dropped for the third consecutive month to 80.5 from the previous month of 81.3. A higher oil price, low prices for agricultural products such as Para rubber and palm oil and decreasing numbers of Chinese tourists contributed to lower purchasing power, apart from the effects of the U.S.-China trade rift and Thai politics. However, the center found that the index in travel spending increased in the past three months. The index of consumer sentiment in the near future was near a normal level of 100, following the government's measures to stimulate tourism and spending at the end of the year. The CEBF still predicted that the Thai economy will expand by 4.2%. -- nnt 2018-12-07

December 7, 20187 yr With 1% of the Thai population owning 56% of the country's wealth why would the junta be concerned about a triviality like a lower consumer index. That only affects the other 99% of the population. It doesn't affect the silvertails, they can tell the plebs to eat cake.
December 7, 20187 yr No thought of the political leadership impacting consumer confidence and buying patterns? If one is uncertain about their future buying power perhaps they become more conservative?

That number is now over 66%, and Thailand has moved from #3 to the #1 most inequitable country in the world. Serious progress by those in charge.
