PM declares stance against corruption

Featured Replies

Words, words, words. Meaningless words.

Now "watch". There's a word with meaning (as it relates to corruption). But the boss never said anything about that.

Think submarines, high speed rail, airplanes and see if corruption comes to mind.

Declaring an official 'Anti-Corruption Day' speaks volumes. A world first I'm sure. Anyway, self admittance is a first good step.

Judging from the picture, they are also saying this with a straight face,

while secretly laughing their balls off, except for the 3 ladies which will

be their mammaries,I think everyone in Thailand ,knows this is BS.nothing

is going to change,as the ones who could make real laws, that could curb

corruption,are those involved in it.catch 22

Anti-Corruption Day on December 9th

Is it a coincident, they "celebrate" this on a work free sunday for officials? And what does it mean in presence of 364 Corruption Days?

No she won't, she is too smart for a legal battle against the bastion of IP rights.

Corruption in Thailand is an industry all by itself and vital to the country by providing grease for the wheels of many other industry sectors. It's valuable contribution should be recognised for what it is and turned into something productive.

I am surprised it is not in the school curriculum and that universities do not offer specialist graduation courses. Heaven knows there must be a wealth of knowledge and experience on the subject which could be shared by many of the higher echelon doyens of corruption. I refer particularly to military officers, politicians and "connected" friends and high ranking civil servants.

Note: Tongue-in-cheek warning!

Thailand like various Asian countries work for the betterment of social cohesion than rule of law. The plebeians will always be plebeians in the elite’s mind. Somebody has to stay at the bottom of the pyramid power /status structure. They would use the grease of corruption to complement the rule of law and order which is a western invention anyway.

What about those wildlife officers that busted that fat cat killer ?  They turned down offers and busted the Italian Thai hi-so.  Why don't they get a pat on the back ?

They should get some awards for recognition to actually putting into practice the stamping out of corruption.

Is this a photo of the delegation on a previous 4 week educational journey with exchange of expertise to Mexico?

When I first visited Thailand, I could not believe the super low money anyone earned.

I realised why corruption was endemic.

A few years ago, my wife told me she had to pay some grease (pink envelope) to officials at immigration, the land office and so on.

It got me the forms I needed.

This tour, I see that all govt agencies have the "no tips" signs everywhere.

I was told it is effective at a low level at least.

I do know for sure that you cannot bribe immigration. But don't ask me how I know.

If it starts to hold up - well that is good.

But don't hold your breath. Not to worry

There is enough corruption going on in all countries as well as Thailand, and perhaps we could start there first.

Depressing. What is the point? Anyone with a single functioning neurone knows that this is a steaming pile of BS.

Land offices have been mentioned. We have been waiting for 2 years to have a simple transaction to be signed off. We were originally told it would cost 10,000 baht for the guy to do his job.

The Junta have been in power for many years and corruption has not improved....has it changed? Yes, it is now specifically legislated for...an example is the 50,000 baht fine for not having your license which is a boon for every policeman. I rest my case.

Prayut has dictatorial powers enshrined in Art 44, yet he cannot pass a law getting public office holders to declare their assets.....and when his mates don't declare them, he ignores it.

Corruption exists in every country....but here is is fostered at the very highest levels and is shoved in your face....as I said it is depressing.

We want actions not words.

A good start point might be those who are refusing to declare their assets.

After the start point I would suggest he check the members of his government.

Indeed Cadbury. And that figure of 66% elevates Thailand to number 1; although the government thinks the data collection criteria are flawed!!!!

This Thai corruption stuff starts at the top and filters right down to the masses. It's a way of life here.

"It's a way of life here."  Of course it is, but common sense says that if one is serious, then one has to start at the top and work it's way down.

Indeed.

Yet, the punditry continues in the same vein among kin threads.

And no ground is gained.

Where other people are concerned. Only elite members are allowed to feed freely from the trough, and that feeding frenzy seems set to continue.

The policy seems to have been to eliminate all corruption...that was not sanctioned by the PM or his people. So it's the same old story, just different players.

Oh so he went "I shall not look in the mirror for at least 15 minutes"? See no evil, ...

He already did, few post above yours ????

Make every civil servant give info on all of their assets, check against all sources for accuracy, then check again when they leave their positions.  Most cannot fill out forms in a foreign language, or open accounts in other countries, so it's not difficult to catch.  Fill up the jails with deterrent sentencing.  That will put a damper on it
