The first issue of 1,000 baht banknotes of the reign of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has won The Best New Banknote Award at the High Security Printing Asia 2018 international conference held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The banknote was cited for its unique printing technology using the optically variable magnetic ink (OVMI), the first of its kind for Thai banknotes which creates three-dimensional moving patterns and switching colours when observing from different angles.

It was named the Best New Banknote at the three-day High Security Printing Asia 2018 forum in Hanoi that ended on Wednesday, according to the Bank of Thailand’s announcement on Friday.

Are you kidding, a free 5-star junket to an exotic destination. Sign me up. I am sure nobody takes attendance and nothing is too formal. Just a few technology displays to walk around.

Is the "watching paint dry" conference opened yet for participants?

The HSP Regional Banknote Awards was divided for the first time into three categories  – Best New Series, Best New Banknote and Best New Commemorative Banknote.

  • Best New Banknote Series -award went to Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) for the 2018 Series.
  • Best New Banknote award was made to the Bank of Thailand for the new 1,000 baht.
  • Best New Commemorative Banknote went to the Bank of Korea for the commemorative 2,000 won, issued by the Bank of Korea to mark the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Note these were regional banknote awards.

They just had to make it the same color as the 100 baht note.  Night time taxi drivers will love this .

That pic reminds me of udon immo office this week.

I suppose they do need the latest security and high technology with the 1,000b note as it's worth so much.itll soon be worth more than the uk's £50 note.

the notes are made at the Royal Australian Mint.

The Numbering (thai script) is added later at some inhouse Thai facility in LOS

the R.A.Mint is the forerunner of the technology and has quite a number of customer foreign countries

Do you know if DeLaRue was involved in the process?

Where's the tattoos?

I am not sure but Thai banknotes are produced by either The Printing Works of the Bank of Thailand OR The China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation.

You just have to change your viewing angle, (and then it can be same colour as any of the others perhaps..)

Looks like the award preferred the new notes' form over function. Have you noticed that all the new bank notes do not have their value (i.e., 20, 50, 100, 500 & 1,000) in the customary upper-right corner of either side? This makes it cumbersome to read a note's value when it's in a wallet, or folded for a pocket.

There are conferences for this kind of shiiiiiit? Sheesh!

A nice looking note , as far as notes go! Though not earth shaking news, a positive for Thailand.

  Well done!!

The fact that no one has a good thing to say about such, positive, innocuous event says more about them than for Thailand.

Agreed...It's very awkward. You need to keep them upside down in your wallet, but that's probably a LM offense in this country..?

Anyone know if there is a time limit to use the old 1000baht notes before they become defunct?

December 10. Noon hour.

Hurry. Rush to the bank.

Oh boy...somehow they'll be wanting to charge more for them now! ????

wow, best note between:

- Cambodian Riel (basically toilet paper money, not even in the neighbor country you'll change it with actual toilet paper)

- Laos Kip (basically toilet paper money, not even in the neighbor country you'll change it with actual toilet paper)

- Vietnamese Dong (basically toilet paper money, not even in the neighbor country you'll change it with actual toilet paper)

What else Indonesian rupees? I need to repeat myself?
