Am a US citizen, 54 yrs old (retired living in Philippines) coming to Thailand for the holidays and will be staying 28 days before flying over to Cambodia to visit Angkor Wat for a few days then flying back to Thailand for a further 27 days. I'll be entering via air on visa exempt only both entries. Don't see the need to get a SETV as I'm only staying 27 days after I return from Cambodia. Have a return ticket to Philippines, cash on hand, etc.

I have not been to Thailand since May 2016 (for 2 months) and only have a few previous entries in my passport. Anyone think it will be an issue flying back in from Cambodia on visa exempt? Hope I've explained things well enough...thanks in advance everyone.

Very unlikely you would be asked anything on either entry, unless you had a longer-stay history in Thailand in the past.

But, just to be on the safe-side, in addition to having the required 20K Baht worth of cash or travelers checks to show, I would also carry something which demonstrates you reside in the Philippines - PI-Alien-ID-Card + latest stay-permission, etc.  That should make it clear that you do not intend to stay here for an extended-time, which is the issue at the Bangkok airports.

No need to get a visa. You should have absolutely no problem entering using visa exemption.
