BANGKOK, 18 December 2018 (NNT) – The Ministry of Transport has planned to establish a Certify Hub for export products at Suvarnabhumi international airport, turning Thailand into a regional air cargo hub.

The Ministry of Transport's Deputy Permanent-Secretary Chaiwat Tongkamkoon chaired a meeting on the establishment of the pre-export product quality certification center, or Certify Hub, at Suvarnabhumi airport.

Participating in the meeting were delegates from Airports of Thailand, the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance.

The meeting approved in principle the setting up of the Certify Hub to position Thailand as a regional air cargo hub and have assigned the OTP to liaise with related agencies to push the project forward , including proposing the project to the Cabinet, overseeing operations by related agencies, determining investment budget, managing human resources and work plans, determining the time frame and studying other related issues to ensure clear progress to realize the project's objectives.

That's all very well but what nation will believe and rely on such certifications given the perception of national corruption in Thailand?

Thailand ranks 96 in the 2017 Corruption Perception Index shared with Zambia, Panama, Columbia, Peru and Indonesia compared to Sri Lanka at 91. https://boingboing.net/2018/02/27/corruption-perception-index-20.html

In the Democracy Index for 2017 Thailand is categorized as a "Hybrid Regime" versus a "Flawed" and "Full" Democracy. http://www.eiu.com/topic/democracy-index

Thailand needs international credibility in any export certification before a certification hub is meaningful.

Many who do QC in China and Taiwan have affiliations in Thailand.  It would be best for them to do this sort of work at the factory NOT at the airport.  Sounds more like AoT is looking for another revenue stream.

Just another roundabout mafia expansion.

Corrupted profits.

Nothing more, nothing less.
