I'm looking to get a single entry tourist visa in Phnom Penh in late December.

I understand that it lasts sixty days but can be extended by another thirty.

I also understand it's also possible to get a re entry visa at the airport which would allow me to make I've trip out of Thailand for a couple of weeks or so, but then come back again on that same single entry visa.

Am I right that it is possible to leave and re-enter Thailand (I want to go to a nearby country) under this visa and also that one can extend it from sixty to ninety days, whilst having left and re-entered? I'm just a bit confused as they call it a single entry when in fact it could be a double entry, if you take account of a re entry permit.... Or am I misunderstanding?

Presume all I need for Phnom Penh documents is proof of onward flight and passport?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Not sure what country your are from, but assuming you are not in Thailand now, and you have not secured your first visa. Save yourself the hassle and get the METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) from you home country. Its far more flexible and the small extra cost is nothing compared to the headaches you might deal with in Cambodia. The Phenom Penh embassy is a nightmare now and I would not recommend going there. But if you do get a single entry visa, that is different than a re-entry permit. A re-entry permit is just that, a re-entry permit.

You can get a single re-entry permit to keep the remainder of the 60 entry valid when you enter the country using it. For example if you had 50 days remaining on your entry and left for 10 days you would only have 40 days left on the 60 days. You would be stamped in to the date your original 60 days ends.

You can apply for the re-entry permit at a immigration office or either airport in Bangkok on departure from the country. The fee is 1000 baht.

When you use the SETV you'll be given 60 days. If you want to leave and return within that 60 days you can with a re-entry permit. A re-entry permit does not add or extend time. When you re-enter the country you'll be stamped in for the remainder of the original 60 days.

You can still extend the 60 days by 30 days after re-entering with the re-entry permit.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm from UK but my nearest consulate didn't have appointments left before Christmas for an MeTV. And, the whole £5k proof of savings seems a bit of a pain.

What's the problem with Phnom Penh, is be doing it through an agent there... I've done only one before, three years ago. I do have several tourist exempt stamps. I have three for this year so far but have only stayed three to four weeks each time.

Thanks again.

Phenom Penh seems to be denying even a 2nd SETV, tried it myself but I had only a METV before that, but they may have denied it for other reasons. Several other people are having the same issue. Also, other embassy seem to be restricting SETV to maybe 2 such as Vientiane, Laos. Do a search on the forums, you will see the threads.

I had two consecutives from Phnom Pehn this year, it's not really like that. My history is:

Setv 1 EU

Setv 2 Phnom Pehn

Setv 3 Phnom Pehn

Setv 4 Hong Kong

Phnom Pehn was done with a 300K Thai bank statement (stamped by the branch) via Lucky Lucky agent in both cases.

It could count that it's a little more than 1,000 dollars. The more the better.

I would say to the OP's chances are good via agent for Phnom Pehn.

Documents:

Bank statement over 1,000 usd.

Onward ticket.

No accomodation proof required.

Single Re-entry permit can be issued both on the 60 day original permission of stay as well as when it's extended for 30 days. In Chaengwatthana, one can apply for an extension half way through the 60 days (so after about 30 days into the stay).

Lucky lucky has said they want to see a minimum of $1000 USD - though I showed well over that, and got a "remark stamp" on the 3rd TR Visa in my passport using that agent.  This was before the consulate became more harsh, recently.

If you showed 300K Baht, that might have made the difference - closer to $9K USD.  I wish they had published their "no remark stamp or other problem" min-amount to show in the bank, as that could have saved me some trouble, later.

I always show amounts in excess of the minimum and not really stretching the permissions of stay to the max. And doing in-outs with re-entry permits occasionally for leisure trips outside of Thailand (that are not for a new visa application purpose all the time).

It may indicate that I don't have a 9 to 5 job in Thailand, which I don't (if say I was working illegally). No employer would give me so much time off and not exactly on the classic visa run days.
