what's the general worried about? the BIB don't do their jobs anyway.

Oh come on,they can't even build a proper wheelchair ramp[article the other day] what hope do they have of this working.

Out of curiosity, has anyone successfully been able to use their 'smart' e-workpermit as proof of residence when applying for a driving licence?

It is indeed too smart for these police officers at this current age because they are so outdated.

What problem?

confiscate the physical license or the devise used in lieu of the physical license.

easy really.

More shall be revealed

In Thailand?

Nah...

Perhaps they should start by spelling "license" correctly.

what the cops are going to do, well as they do very little now, I see no change

Ummmm....................... three capital letters? ????

You lost me. ????

OMG next it will be stringent government annual checks on all road vehicles and  Thailand joining the digital age

From an older post on ThaiVisa.com, here is a link to a .pdf (English) of the traffic law. (I'm unaware of any real changes).

http://thailaws.com/law/t_laws/tlaw0140_5.pdf

There are several mentions of the power to lawfully seize licences.

I forgot to include the link promised.

I suppose it'll be hard to keep things under the table if it's handled electronically.

Maybe they shoild concentrate on teaching people how to drive and obey the laws before they start handed out fancy licences....but it looks good on the outside as most things Thai.

I would like to see traffic policemen concentrate on ticketing drivers who drive head long into on-coming traffic rather than follow traffic in the left lane until the next U-turn...

A valid drivers license is not of much value after a head-on collision.

Are we allowed at least 3 guesses..

Is it actually allowed within Thai law for the police to hold your licence?

And if you aren't licenced to drive / ride?

I have been fined many times and it is always 200 baht. I find it a good way to control traffic. Not too much and a quick way to operate. No paperwork and a good deterant.

I always keep 200 baht in my ash tray.

i don’t know how it works in farang towns, but in the country it’s 200 baht. I use an international drivers licence. Available from AAA in USA.

Why would you need an internet signal?  It's an app on your phone that stores your DL information and a QR code.  You don't need internet.

And a normal DL is still an option.

First thing is first- a piece of Durin fruit can out smart Thai police, second thing I think the Thai cops are not worried about criminals out smarting the system- they are worried that their criminals won’t be smart enough to extort drivers with the new system.

hmmm.... what I suggest that most things would be too smart for the TP

Of cause these police are worried to change the licence system. They will have to back to kindergarten to begin learning to understand what these new words mean.

One would guess the app wouldn’t need 3G/4G to function. QR codes don’t need signal and your license details would be downloaded onto the app at home

Carry your physical license then. No brainer really.

Just to clarify, it states ‘plans to’ do away with conventional licenses.
