Student killed by truck in Pathum Thani

By The Nation

A newly-graduated engineering student was killed early on Saturday when his motorcycle was hit by a truck trailer on a road in Pathum Thani's Muang district.

Pak Klong Rangsit police were alerted to the accident on the Somsang road in Tambon Bang Poon in Muang district at 1.30am.

Narathorn Sonthi, 22, an engineering student of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi was killed.

The truck also hit and slightly damaged a taxi, driven by Preecha Khunlarn, 45.

Preecha told police that he was driving behind a truck and its trailer hit a motorcycle, which was running beside it. The motorcycle fell and the driver was thrown and hit a concrete barrier. The truck sped off after the accident, Preecha added.

Some of Narathorn's friends who showed up at the scene were distraught. They said he had just finished his studies and was waiting for the commencement ceremony. He was now working as an engineering advisor for a construction firm.

Yet another dreadful heavy goods driver killing a motorcyclist AND hitting a taxi AND speeding off- no  "understanding driver's tracking" for an excuse this time!! I hope the lorry driver is arrested and imprisoned for a very long time. RIP young engineer and condolences to his family.

A sad end to a blossoming career.

As an aside:  Talk about climbing the corporate ladder.  An advisor at 22 years old.  I have always been under the mistaken impression that advisors needed vast experience in their field.
