The idea that Thai people are ever going to develop the same attitudes towards race and fairness that are common in the west, is just a pipe dream. It hasn't been that many years since job adverts could specify that a female applicant must be "attractive".

A grammar police post and the replies have been removed.

Other off topic posts and the replies were removed as well.

Of course not, you will always be falang beginning with a small "f". Whatever gave you the idea that you would be considered a local. You can't own land, you are restricted from many types of work. Your are a nobody.  Take a good look at your "temporary" visa stamped in your passport.

Not that being Thai is anything to aspire to just as we don't aspire to be 15th century versions of ourselves.

Anyway, there is no solution to Thai xenophobia. They won't change, and that's ok. They have free will to choose to open up and join the world or to hide in their own tiny, fabricated workd.

I handle this by enduring my life in Thailand involves as few of them as possible, and this keeps me sane, and relatively happy.

Stickhouse?
Thickhouse more like it.
I was thinking Shithouse.

And, it's helpful to regularly remind ourselves that Thailand is of almost zero significance anywhere else in the world. Nobody takes them seriously and neither should we, just as you don't take adolescent children seriously

Can you be more specific about the airline and the situation? You search for prices online and get them before they know what your nationality is. I've never had a promotion price disappear once I've given my nationality.

think it was the thai airways website --- if not Bangkok Airways--- I spotted the words "  for Thai Nationals Only" -- as I was about to book-- so I assume that I would have been     "personna non gratias" as soon as the airlines computor/person recognised  that I indeed was not ?? ????

Yesterday I drove through to Bangkok, noted a car in front with golliwogs all along the back windscreen.

Went for an oil massage a bit later, they tried to charge me 700thb, double the advertised price of 350thb for an hour. I heard them talking putside the room that farang have a lot of money etc.

Silly mistake, as I had been there before and paid local price, and I stay just round the corner. Another regular customer lost forever.

Sometimes they are just too thick to understand what they are doing.

Nice one

Last year mr Prayuth said that ALL retailers had to show the retail price of their products....but as usual nobody listened to him.

found out  no surprise it has happened everwhere.did sales improve or die of death and no expats go near it

i think all thais in business or the tourist side, think farangs have money trees in their back garden. we are the golden goose for them

Oh the irony...they are selling a FOREIGN product LOL

With the Thai-ification regime they put everything through, most of them probably think "Iitaaliien Eye-theam" was invented in Thailand.

Most Thais think, for example, that Swensons is Thai.

Surprised they didn't rename the operations in Thailand to

"Thai Stickhouse"

like they do with everything else.

ten baht KFC vanilla ice cream

Everyone talks about the worldwide predominance of McD's, but I have been in places that didn't have one, but did have a KFC.  I eat their ice cream but not any other stuff.  Same for the other fastfood franchises that have ice cream.

I stopped in one in Penang during Ramadan, it was after 9pm, and there was a guy who bought a whole bucket of chicken and he was going at it as if he hadn't eaten all day ????

This is normal practice in Thailand, foreigners are not equal to Thais.

just shows how blatantly racist thais are

Westerners can think racism is bad, but actually in Asia it is regarded as the opposite.

I’ll never give them my money. You shouldn’t be able to recover from something like this.

Screw them. They will eventually go out of business anyway, as most of them do.

Gelato is more expensive to make than ice cream and therefore usually commands a higher price than ice cream. However franchise or otherwise the reply does not make me want to rush to their store and buy. Think I will stick to the ten baht KFC vanilla ice cream .. Actually not a bad product and does not have as much overrun as it could.. Overrun = as much air into it as possible !!!( I have a diploma in moology)

Gelato is cheaper to make than ice cream (unless you are referring to soft serve).  Ice cream has a higher fat content and uses more whipping cream in production. Ice cream therefore retails more than gelato.

I have an ice cream factory producing a quality product used by hotels and restaurants, not selling in shops. Majority of chefs prefer to buy by weight rather than volume so we minimize overrun.

So many negative comments here, the staff did a mistake, they learned their lesson and it will never repeat itself. I will be the first one in the queue to get 50% off, take a picture of the bill and post it here.

Italian gelato is delicious.

are you talking about Thailand????

If this was the only company sticking it to the foreigners then I would be in heaven here.... haha

Looks to me they are having to take a ticket to stick it to us these days....

Get in line, and take a number.

... and anywhere else you may think of.

I say the promo is nationalistic rather than racist because it excludes people from neighbouring countries who may be the same race, just a different nationality. Either way it is unpleasant, though in Thailand not illegal.

Try telling a Thai that they are the same race as Cambodians or Burmese!

Many Thais in Issan feel they have roots in Laos.

I deliberatly omitted Laos. Now ask a Bangkok Thai about Isaan people.

...there are a few exceptions.... name a few please

Agree that "obviously, not all can be tarred with the same brush, there are a few exceptions."

More than a few perhaps, it's just the negative examples contrast so drastically

e.g.....

State Railway staff, recently missed a departure at DMK, nipped across the bridge to DM station, whilst completing purchase of our tickets, the train pulled in and the guy in the office radioed that we needed to board.

Boarded from trackside, Staff could not be more helpful, looking for no reward.

They just need some more investment in their rolling stock...

No.. they are not.. they are vastly inferior , mostly, bit they will never know it such is their ego.

... apartheid Thainess coming to your areas as and when the Nationalist pleases.

This will carry on until the Thai Government promotes its zenophobic nationalist mentality towards the relexing of permanent residence, and gaining of Thai Citizenship.

Will it ever become ‘multicultural’ ????????????

They write the prices in thai numbers and farangs have to pay more. Same as the government owned National Parks. Thai solution :)
