thaibebop
A Thai Future Fair do's, TB, this wasn't their invention. He didn't say that it was. It's what Thailand is trying to contribute to this world. It's a research center. Capice, now? Bingo! Bingo was invented in the United States by a traveling salesman named Edwin Lowe. You're all over it!!

Objection sustained. I plead guilty to having allowed myself to be diverted from the spirit of this thread. IMHO, the Thais have given many of us the inspiration to head for a happy, carefree little haven (which they generously provided), to which we can run whenever life on our own turf becomes too difficult or wearisome and where we can still afford to live in better style than most Thais can. I think this was the best invention ever to come from SE Asia.

Nam Plah
I recall reading that in antiquity Thailand was responsible for the first domestication and systemic cultivation of the grain now known as rice. Meaning that if true, Thailand is indirectly responsible for keeping billions of impoverished people from starving. Can any other nation past or present make such a claim? Prakanong
And true, n'est ce pas? I don't know. All I know is that if demand weren't there, there wouldn't be supply. As a result, the girls might have chosen a different and better path for their lives. Yes, something like farm laborers. You forget Thaigoon thinks everyone only visits for cheap prostitutes. He is upset because as an electrical engineering post grad or whatever all the jobs are going elsewhere and many many of these cheap prostitutes will be taking home a lot more than he does in a month ;-) Sad to say but its probably true

mumbojumbo
I think the greatest thing Thailand has given the world is very satisfied vacationers, and for the ex-pats, a quality of life far superior than that of there homeland would of given them, except the ones that spent more than they could afford to loose. sonnyJ
I would say that Thais make Theravada Buddhism easily accessible to the world. Accessible yes, also changed it to be some modern,,, thing. I would go with the old-fashioned fundamentals. In all Buddhism.
sonnyJ
So, thus far we have learned that:Thailand is the world's leading exporter canned pineapple Thailand is the second-biggest exporter of sugar and the fourth biggest exporter of poultry. Thailand is the biggest tapioca exporter (over 75% of world market share). Thailand is the 7th largest exporter of Automobiles in the world Thailand are the biggest Exporter of Rice and coconut products Thailand are the biggest exporter of frozen shrimp to the United States. Thailand is the world's top rubber producer and exporter Thailand is the world's leading exporter of condoms. And my personal favourite: Thailand has given hospitality to millions and millions of people throughout the years. Putting a smile on the face of uptight strangers. Not to bad as far as i can see. This is a very interesting question and by page 7 we have got pretty far. I'll offer some critisism to be fair. I just read that most thai manufactured condoms are substandard. Why canned pineapple costs here more than in europe? Even scandinavia. Thailand produces rubber but lot less than some countries in SEA and america. Also the car industry, well,,, yes. Internet is a wonderful thing. In OP, Red Bull brand was creted by this Austrian guy with thai manufacturers. Let's see what the future brings. It would have served you well, had you done some research of your own before you posted. Funny how one dared critique another, when one didn't even half know what he's talking about. http://www.thailand.com/exports/html/indus...rproduction.htm (1998 data) http://www.da.gov.ph/mindanao/com_profile/rubber.html (2004 data) "• The world natural rubber production reached 8.34 M Mt in 2004 where Thailand (36.33%), Indonesia (21.49%), Malaysia (11.99%) and India (8.32%)are among the top producers." And for Red Bull, please go google and educate yourself. I'm not gonna bother.
