Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha thanked children for their moral support when he officially kicked off National Children's Day celebrations at Government House on Saturday.

Prayut officially opened the celebrations at 10am by pedaling a stationary bike to generate electricity that lit the lights for the celebration.

As part of his opening speech, Prayut asked children to be good and have discipline and morality.

He said it was a hot day so he would like government agencies in the compound to take good care of visiting children.

"Hello kids. Thank you for moral support for the government," Prayut said.

After finishing his speech, Prayut came out to meet children and take selfies with children and parents on the lawn in front of the Thai Ku Fah Building. The prime minister mingled with children.

After the opening ceremony, Prayut welcomed 21 children from the deep South, including several autistic children, and let them sit on the prime minister's seat.

"Hello kids. Thank you for moral support for the government,"

Slightly puzzled look from children.

One or two ask their friends what he means.

Adults marvel at such pathetic, embarrassing, desperate, clumsy, cynical electioneering.
