man and woman

Featured Replies

On my extensive travels in Thailand at a market on the Mekong river at Phisai I spotted  for sale two small figures their shape looked like  a man and a woman. It appeared to be a kind of fruit not unlike a vine, they were about 150mm tall; I bought them hoping to find out their origins, the vendor was and older Laos lady and was not able to explain where they came from. This was a couple of years ago and since then have seen them in markets in Nong Khai, Mukdahan and even Bangkok. The market vendor in Bangkok showed me two slightly different types, one being a fake but equally she just explained that they were delivered to her stall and she just sold them unable to explain any more. Over the years I have asked many Thai people especially the older members who didn't know the history and never seen them before and even Google was unable to come up with an explanation just folklore and identifying a fake tree. They are real and any information to enlighten me and Thai Visa and our members would be greatly appreciated, photograph attached1741485486_headandshoulders.thumb.JPG.e302aff08393a310e36b6a4c8ba8ddc3.JPG Thanks

How would or ( wood ) you or she know they were fake.

They are objects used by Hill Tribe’s to bring bad luck to their enemies, like voodoo dolls. Ancient Thai legend has it that those in possession will wake up next to a ladyboy!
