NO SS (SSO) contributions? NO insurance!

Was told, it's impossible to insure employees until the Work Permit is issued.

Really?!? It's a vit like having third party liability insurance for one's car. Not an option, a necessity!

 

Am suspecting that private schools want to save $$$s. Matching contributions means 750 THB each month they'd rather not spend.

an insurance company is always a possibility with or without the permit, but Preacher is correct!!

There is no connection between mandatory SSO enrollment and having or not having a WP. Just the same as, if you are being paid, not having a WP does not discharge you from your obligation to pay income tax.

Private schools don't have to participate in the SSO scheme. It's not mandatory for them.

The affairs of a Formal School only on the part of the Director, teachers and educational personnel shall not be subject to the law on labor protection, the law on labor relations, the law on social security and the law on compensation.

 

However, the Director, teachers and educational personnel of a Formal School shall receive remunerations not less than those prescribed in the law on labor protection.

Where I work, the insurance company will not provide coverage until/unless a work permit is authorized.  It's a comprehensive policy that also provides life-insurance, and the beneficiary MUST be a relative.   If you are living with, but not married to a Thai, they cannot be the beneficiary.   Someone inquired as to why and was told that a lot of the foreigners would end up dead!

Same when I wanted to get insurance from AIA. They were very clear that as i was working no work permit would meant no insurance.
