The long-delayed tunnel pass linking Pattanakarn, Ramkhamhaeng and Thavorn Thawat roads will be officially opened to traffic on February 1, Bangkok’s deputy governor, Chakkraphan Phiewngam, says.

Chakkraphan said the four-kilometre underpass will be fully opened to traffic on an around the clock basis starting that day.

The underpass has been opened to traffic from 5am to 11pm since December 25, but then closed overnight so that workers could finish the remaining work.

The tunnel was to open on April 11 last year, but was delayed multiple times, further aggravating traffic congestion on Pattanakarn road.

The deputy governor said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will later install 10 CCTVs inside the underpass.

why does it look like it is 20 years old already?

It looks the same as the underpass in Khon Kaen when opened.

Unbelievable.

Because it is isn't finished.

They opened it before it was finished to help the traffic and they close it and work on the finishing at night.

I live near there and it has made a massive difference.  Just a shame it took so long.  Then again it is in a very narrow, crowded street, on a bend, with shophouses immediately at the edge of the road, so can't have been an easy build.

Another great article.  Four kilometres??  It's a few hundred metres.  How on earth can something so fundamentally wrong get through?  A four km underpass would be a massive thing in any city.
