What Did Thais Do Before 'the Mobile Phone?'

Featured Replies

I'm going to start with the easiest and probably the most true answer...

they slept more!

Now, it's your turn to come up with funny, better answers as to what they spent so much of their spare time doing before they had mobiles. My wife, a typical example, can waste 2 hours or more a day on the ###### thing.

they've lost wieght since mobile phones. they used to spend more time eating.

They communicate less, but talk more...

Used two bean cans on a piece of string....

They paged more ...

They used to put the palm of their hands against their ears, just waiting for someone to invent the mobile phone.

Quite imagine they used the pay phone or a landline, similar to what we in the west did.

They spent a lot of time waiting....for a phone line. My in-laws once waited 8 years for a second phone line needed for a family of 10.

My ex used to answer the phone when we were on the job as one might say. She actually moaned and groaned throughout the call!

In the bars in the days before mobiles all the girls used to sit in front of the mirror squeezing zits from their faces-really unappealing

B4 the mobile phone they could sit and have an uninterrupted conversation with you.

The women had very weak thumbs. Now, thanks to SMS, they can give strong massage.

Carrier Pigeons...

OK, a semi-serious answer because when I came to live here, there were no phones, not even landlines.

Everyone employed what I like to call the "Thai Telephone" : they bellowed, shrieked and generally "woo'd" to get their neighbors attention. Works a treat, I am quite adept at it myself :o

"WOOOOO!!!! PAI NAI UH???"

Little know fact, but since the advent of the mobile, the Thai 'sticky out ear' gene has receded. :o

The Thai girlfriends and wifes prolly did the same as their counterparts in UK.. they knew the pub phone number off by heart... :o

totster :D

Replying to What Did Thais Do Before 'the Mobile Phone?':

Have you ever noticed that Thai people often speaks so loud?

Maybe that's what they did before the mobile phones...

They stuck their heads out the window to broadcast a manual voice mail.

Wrote notes on a piece of paper that's crumpled later to make it more aerodynamic for a manual SMS.

My wife uses her mobile phone to call her sister in the other bedroom of our condo.

Guess before the mobile they just didn't talk to each other.

They used to be able to get a finger from each hand up their nostrils?

That would be a funny comment, but unfortunately I suspect you are serious and absolutely right.

Smoke signals may be an option
