PM claims wristwatch scandal not cause of Thailand’s downgrading in corruption index

Discussing/arguing/contributing commentary about a mans wrist watch...who really cares?  It's as useful as arguing about death; it's going to happen - PERIOD!  NOTHING you say or do will stop it.  So suck it up and move on...

For once I agree, the watch scandal is just the tip of the iceberg. The rank on the corruption index could be away from the real scale of the problem. But I am sure the pm has an even better insight in the looting

Weren’t some of the protesters of the Army Park charged?

I don't believe so. One of the Junta declared all was above board and that was that. Major bribery was proved but nothing was done, the government declared that all was just fine and dandy. IIRC.

He insisted that the wristwatch scandal was a minor issue and has already been settled. The National Anti-Corruption Commission recently cleared Gen Prawit of wrong-doing in the scandal

He would like everyone to believe the issue has been settled but just because he says it's over, and his lapdog the NACC, says its over does not make it over. Until the public believes the responses the Toad has provided it won't be over. But...the PM is right, this is issue is much deeper, and he is right in the middle of the problem.

The chap in the middle is doing a facepalm at the idea anyone could make such an outrageous claim.

And in the photo, the chap next to Prayut was too embarrassed to be seen next to him.

The wristwatch scandal really has not much to do with the downgrading. It is the whole of life corruption that exists in all of the authorities

from military and police down to institutions such as the land office and justice courts. Not to mention immigration.

Such is the daily way of life in Thailand. It has gotten worse under the junta.

And is the reason many wealthy Thais still enjoy a good life here and support Prayut. They are in on it too. It is a very big

trough that the pigs feed from.

wristwatch scandal may not of been used in the downgrading but it a massive middle finger to every average somchai and family and undeniable point blank in your face evidence of corruption and ridiculous lies they will go to .

Waste of time dealing with this level of individual anyway besides a bullet, sorry I mean a ballot, i'm sure that be honest outcome and no corruption !!! ????

The problem with corruption in Thailand is that it is so pervasive, they don't even see it.

Years ago I was in the car with my realtor on the way to the land office to buy a condo.

We started discussing corruption, and she was vocal about how terrible and destructive it was for the country. Almost without missing a beat, she then told me she had given a bribe at the land office to make sure we didn't have to wait in line.

They just don't see it, it's top to bottom. How you change a culture like that?

Thats going to take generations

It may not be the root cause of the downgrading but it certainly hasn't helped especially when you know that most people feel the "watch saga" investigation was nothing but a sham.

Makes you wonder just how much one knows about the other.

we already know about the level of protection it has afforded

I agree with every thing you said.

Corruption occurs when no moral structure is in place in government or in the basic fabric of society.

A society that has known corruption for generations understands that this is a part of the lifestyle

It also occurs when people in authority at a very basic level are underpaid.

It will take a whole generation to change corruption.

And lets be real. That is not about to happen in Thailand.

My wife knows when to  pay someone off. It is part of the culture.

And no change of government is ever going to rid Thailand of corruption.

Whoever the next lot to rule Thailand knows they will soon be very rich.

They are all scum and have no intention of "Making Thailand Great Again".

All of them know how to make their bank balances "Great Again".
