May 16, 200323 yr THAILAND IS SAFE FROM TERRORIST ATTACK. I know such comments are made to protect the flagging tourist industry but come on Prime Minister Mr. T, any country that has a population or influx of Westerners is at risk, just ask the Balanese islanders!. These are fanatical Muslim suicide assasins, they do not know the difference between British, Americans,Dutch or any other infadels. They don't care who they blow up, women, children or their own people. If the PM has any doubts he should come here to Riyadh and see the carnage at first hand, may be he would not be so complacent. REMEMBER these barbarians could strike in London, Lampang,Lankawi or Little Rock USA.
May 19, 200323 yr good points. i just happened to be walking down soi 4 the other night. there is no/none/zero security out in front of nana plaza or nana hotel. any type of vehicle could pull up, park and.....so its a good thing there is nothing to worry about.
May 19, 200323 yr Maybe you think there is no security in those areas, but are you able to spot plain clothes cops?
May 19, 200323 yr Author It does not matter how many plain clothes security you have on the street, if the threat is not taken seriously or played down then it is an easy target. Saudi was well aware of the warnings, the compounds had high walls and gates but just take a re look at the carnage-devastating. I dread to think what these suicidal maniacs could at the entrance of Nana Plaza. The death toll would be horrendous. Look out for Abdullahs bearing gifts!!
May 19, 200323 yr Of course you can spot the plain clothes police - just look for the nearest Kareoke bar, and spy out the ones that look most drunk and are singing loudest. Seriously though, anti-terrorism is about deterants and plain clothes cops are not a deteant as they are, er, in plain clothes. Look to London's ring of steel during the IRA bombings a few years back - police everywhere, stopping vans, cars, lorries etc and many carrying big modern automatic assault rifles to boot. It worked - visible deterant is the key, keep them away from the headline targets. You can never completely remove the danger of suicide bombings or other similar fanatical actions, but if you can take away their punch, all the better.
May 19, 200323 yr Good points, Wolf5370. Youi know of course that some of the taxi drivers hanging around are cops. The problem here is that the government is reluctant to scare tourists off. Among SARS, ripoffs, two tier pricing, etc., adding a bunch of trigger happy cowboys (as you know some of the cops are) might become Thailand's terrorist incident.
