Krung Thonburi, Phayathai most congested roads

Krung Thonburi and Phayathai roads suffer the worst congestion during the morning and evening rush hours respectively, the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) announced on Wednesday.
 

The OTP said its study found that vehicles could move on Krung Thon Buri Road at just 6.8 kilometres per hour during the morning rush hour and at 8.6km/h on Phayathai Road during the evening rush hour.

 

The OTP listed the 10 worst roads for traffic congestion between 6am and 9am as:

 

1. Krung Thonburi (Krung Thonburi-Surasak) 6.8 km/h

2. Rama IX (Ramkhamhaeng-Rama IX) 7.7 km/h

3. Prachachuen (Pongphet-Chalermphan) 9.3 km/h

4. Inner Ratchavithi (Upai-Victory Monument) 11.5 km/h

5. Borom Ratchanonnee (New Southern Terminal-Borom Ratchanonnee) 11.8 km/h

6. Phaholyothin (Lak Si Monument-Victory Monument) 11.8 km/h

7. Mahaisawan (Mahaisawan-Thanon Tok) 12 km/h

8. Inner Rama IV (Kasemrat- Hua Lamphong) 12 km/h

9. Ratchavithi (Bang Plad-Upai) 12 km/h

10. Lat Phrao (Bang Kapi-Lat Phrao) 12.1 km/h

 

The 10 most congested roads during the evening rush hours from 4pm to 7pm are:

 

1. Phayathai (Samyan-Victory Monument) 8.6 km/h

2. Inner Sukhumvit (Nana-Asoke) 9.8 km/h

3. Ratchavithi (Upai-Bang Plad) 9.9 km/h

4. Prachachuen (Chalermphan-Pongphet) 10.6 km/h

5. Charoenkrung (Surawong-Thanon Tok) 10.9 km/h

6. Phaholyothin (Victory Monument-Lak Si Monument) 10.9 km/h

7. Sathorn (Wireless Road-Surasak) 11.6 km/h

8. Rama IX (Rama IX-Ramkhamhaeng) 11.8 km/h

9. Inner Rama IX (Hua Lamphong-Kasemrat) 12.3 km/h

10. Inner Phetchaburi (Urupong-Asoke Phet) 13.1 km/h.

Its not easy to be the most congested country in the world, and at the same time hold the record for the most road fatalities.

I try not to complain about the traffic. It's just how it is.

Bangkok simply does not have enough bridges crossing the river, not to mention small roads not able to handle the traffic. On top of that most low-mid income workers can't afford to take the BTS in the morning.
