Video: Motorcycle taxi showman gets suspended prison sentence and fine - but it seems he's still on the road

A motorcycle taxi rider who was filmed going along Sukhumvit Soi 77 (On Nut) standing on his bike has been prosecuted.

The Phrakhanong prosecutor took out the action against 24 year old Kannaphak who was found to be in contravention of traffic rules from 1979 and 1992.

He was sentenced to two months in jail and a 6,000 baht fine. This was reduced to one month and 3,000 baht because he admitted it. The jail term was suspended for two years.

The Prakhanong court heard that the incident occurred on January 30th on On Nut heading towards Lat Krabang.

Kannaphak, wearing Jacket 19, was standing on his motorcycle travelling at speed without caring about the safety of other motorists.

He traveled a considerable distance. He had jammed the accelerator with a coin, the court heard.

He was also found to have no helmet, no third party insurance and no tax.

Sanook reported on the story and did not make any further reference to the rider being banned from the roads.

Thaivisa notes that the Department of Land Transport may now pay attention to the incident though what action they may take remains to be seen.

No action by the police has been reported as the case was taken up by the public prosecutor in Phrakhanong.

I am always amazed to see one awake, and not on their phone or camped in the middle of the walkway.

I see a motocy taxi driving against traffic every minute, and the police does nothing against that....

There are so many half wits like this one on the roads, so it's basically considered a normal thing.

Driving in a smooth, calm manner. Safer than many moto-taxi drivers I have seen. Looks like he wanted a better vantage point from which to spot customers and presenting himself so potential customers could spot and signal him. Now if he did the same with a customer riding pillion I would be concerned.

Yet he passed the requirements to become a "win taxi" rider??

Ahh but you fail to realize that Thais have a 'Klingon' type Cloaking device -

I observe this in use daily in Patong at the end of Bangla rd junction, near Police Box on the beach. One or two BiBs will be there lurking watching the one way beach rd traffic going north all farangs with no helmets get pulled (even some with helmets get pulled lol) while Thais using the cloaking device sometimes two, three or four up pass freely about their business...

This was on the Thai tv news a few days ago, he was sat in front of the police, and of course being the macho man he is, had his mummy sat next to him.

Come on Thailand that's why Thai people don't care about rules and regulations

Yeah and add riding up and down pedestrian walkways. We have cops sitting under a permanent shade in our area to deter them. I walk past those cops daily at different times and have never seen them show any interest in stopping these clowns. The cops spend their time reading newspapers and playing games on their phones.
