Can I Transfer my 60 Day Entry Extension Stamp From Old Passport to New Passport at Chiang Mai Immigrations?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I am from the U.S. and I have to apply for a new passport while I'm here on a 60 day (30 day extension) stamp. I will be in Chiang Mai to pick up my new passport, so will I be able to get the stamp transferred from my old passport to my new one here at the immigrations in Chiang Mai? Or will I need to go to Bangkok to transfer the stamp? I'm only asking because I had to get the 30 day extension at the immigrations in Bangkok. Thanks for your time everyone! Cheers.

You don't need to have your stamps transferred at immigration. It can be done when you leave the country.

I read online that it must be done: https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passport-services-frequently-asked-questions/

"Thai immigration law requires entry/exit stamps and Thai visas be transferred into new passports. After receiving your new passport, please visit any Thai immigration office to have the visa transferred. The letter to facilitate visa transfers comes standard with all passport renewals and is provided without fee."

Also, I will actually be applying for an Education Visa at a Thai Language School during my stay. So I think in order to get my paperwork completed for the ED Visa I will need a transfer of stamps to my new passport. Thanks again.

That info is really only for those on longstay extensions and visas. It is not mandatory for those on visa entries or 30 day extensions.

Some immigration office might not transfer your stamps. You can try in Chiang Mai but they might tell you do it when your leave the country or do it in Bangkok since that is where you got your extension.

I don't think showing both passports when the school gets the paperwork together for you apply for a non-ed visa at a nearby embassy or consulate will be a problem.

Ok, thank you for your insight. I hope you are correct!
