A proposed deal between Iran and Oman that would give Tehran control over ships entering the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz is not easily workable due to US sanctions and restrictive insurance clauses on any payments, four industry sources tell Reuters.

Before the outbreak of the US-Israeli war with Iran in late February,  the narrow waterway between the Gulf and the Indian Ocean was the main route for about a fifth of world oil supplies and other vital goods. It was freely open to all ships with no fees.

Control of the strait has been the biggest sticking point in efforts to end the conflict.

Israel who gives orders to Trump, has really no wish to see the war and Ormuz crisis Stop. A bit like Ukraine who wants the war to carry on as it will allow the ruling gang in Kiev to remain in power. Funny how the media rarely reports on the numerous groups rising up in Ukraine, calling for the current rulers to step down.

Israel was the aggressor.

Ukraine was invaded by an aggressor.

This is absolutely not a comparison, but rather it shows where your sympathies lie.

However, your first part was right, in that Israel will keep throwing spanners in the works of any agreements to wreck them. Netanyahu needs constant war.

Any way, back to the topic - the Straits of Hormuz.

Trumps problem is that he needs passage of the Straits to ensure that the oil his regime continues to control in the once occupied and now defanged and supine Iraq can be looted, exported and sold - big money for Washington!

Saudi Arabia is reportedly looking at pipelines to bypass the Straits, either via the Arabian sea or Israel (!) - $$ make for strange bedfellows. Israel for Europe and the West, Arabian Sea for destinations East. I expect that USA/Iraq are looking in at getting in on the act as well.

Once that is set up he will walk away, leaving Iran with effective control of the Straits.

The problem is this will take time - and the conventional view in US politics is that Trump does not have time. But then, who said that Trump would abide by "conventional politics ", either in terms of election results or term limits/third terms?

If the war, and it's resolution in a way which will feed Trumps rampant narcissm takes time to arrange, and if short term it looks like having an effect on the Mid Term Election (very likely), and in the medium term even perhaps the next Presidential and General Election (also likely) then that will be "taken care of".

In the meantime the war will drag on at a much lower (cheaper) tempo.

Not to mention Iran wants to restrict ANY ships that benefit the US or Israel from entering or exiting the Strait.

Iran stated that even if the Oman negotiations are positive it will Not open the Strait without the US making contributions, end to threats/blockade/sanctions, asset releases, etc.) are required.

So don't think much will change anytime soon.
