Popular Post KhaoYai
I arrived at Suvarnabhumi last night to find that the airport is now applying a Total ban on smoking in all areas (supposedly, although there was a small area outside surrounded by fake bushes). All the smoking lounges have been closed - even in the lounges. Whilst I respect the rights of non smokers to breath clean, smoke free air and even supported the ban on smoking in UK pubs when it was introduced, I think its about time the anti smoking lobby respected my right to smoke. I'm getting absolutely sick of these self righteous 'big brothers' who attempt to control my life - I have rights too! Nobody at check in advised me of this. The anti smoking movement in Thailand appears to have grown stronger than it is in the UK now but to those of you who think its a good thing - I hope you don't like a drink. The same people who campaigned for the smoking ban in the UK are now turning their attention to drinking - even suggesting that drinking in the home should be limited - wait until Thailand catches on to that one! As a non smoker, you have a perfect right to not have to smell cigarette smoke - believe it or not, between cigarettes, smokers like clean air too. But why do non smokers have rights when smokers have none? I used to think that Thailand was more liberal and understanding - having smoking rooms in the concourse before you reach immigration but now, the country appears to have gone anti smoking mad. In a country where people drive like madmen and thousands die every year on the roads with little of any meaning being done to end that, it seems a little strange to prioritise smoking on the 'put things right' list. Right, I'll wait for the flaming then.........
tifino
oh well... can't stop you putting a dry ciggie in you mouth and let your tongue play with it - stopping short of converting it into chewing tobaccy just make sure you don't have any matches or lighter on your person (as that would be akin to being found drunk and asleep in your car, with the ignition keys sitting in the lock)
BobbyL
It just seems such an odd decision. I really couldn't care less if people go to a room to smoke. What is the benefit of closing them? I am guessing a way of catching people out to fine them. Also, you can guarantee all the airport staff will be smoking out the back somewhere.
