PHUKET:-- Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) has installed an ozone water-treatment machine along the Bang Tao Canal to help treat the dirty water there, which has turned black with pollution and is causing a foul stench along its course to the southern end of Bang Tao Beach.

Cherng Talay OrBorTor Chief MaAnn Samran said that an urgent – albeit temporary – solution was needed along the canal while waiting for the full wastewater-treatment facility to come onstream.

The ozone generator was installed on Feb 15, Mr MaAnn told The Phuket News today (Feb 26).

How about using some intelligence and actually going upstream and educating the polluters who dump waste into the canal.

As for their ozone treatment plant, one would hope that they include a pre-screening stage in order to remove sludge and solid contaminants before the water is treated.

Ozone will have the desired effect if you install the right size generator, grams per hour

The first thing to happen when you pump Ozone into waste water the smell goes

From the photo I cant work out exactly what they have installed

it may kill the smell, but basically sterilises the water (well, partially). But this just shifts the problem downstream, the crap still needs to be broken down by Bacteria - which will need to recolonise the water. Ozone is a good final treatment for wastewater, but not so much as a first step ....
