My colleague's B-VISA will expire this week. She only signed a stack of documents 2 days ago. And there is no appointment yet at the Labour Department.

In the past, I have had to start all over again when "less than 2 weeks' time" was left on the B-Visa.

  • Does she stand a chance, getting it all sorted in such a short time?
  • Met a guy who's agency boss obtained a WP in a day. (I always had to  w a i t  much longer).
  • The school has been upbeat while I would be rather pessimistic,

Looks like they forgot to even apply for a WP until this week!

Improbable, but not impossible. Normally, when you apply for a first work permit you have to wait a couple of days before you can go back and collect it.

Applying for a first work permit and receiving it the same day? It's possible...

Applying for an extension of stay based on working, and submitting the required documents in one day?

If you have a very experienced staff member doing the submission then this is possible. There is very little room for error though.

Keep us updated with how it all works out. It will be an interesting read for others.

Well, photos (outside the school, with the principal and in the classroom were taken. A first for me, but these might be 'local rules' or part of authorizing the principal to collect the WP tomorrow morning?

Last night, 6 photos were needed and submitted today.

Tomorrow afternoon, they will go to Immigration.

Here in the sticks WP is normally a 2 day turnaround but renewals are same day. Immigration is also same day or if they need time to process they don't penalize you while they are processing. Good luck to your friend, hope it works out.

Update: The school said "no problem" and they all went to Immigration (that implies they have got their WPs).

Alas, they are now all doing a family VISA run. That tells me, this thing has not worked out at all!
