webfact
Drought sparks anxiety in Yasothon By The Nation In the face of severe drought, the Chi River is almost running dry in Yasothon province. The riverbed is visible behind the Tha Kham Temple in Yasothon’s Maha Chanachai district. People could walk across the Chi without getting wet. “We are now asking people to cooperate to reduce water use. We have also asked a dam to release water into the river,” Yasothon Governor Nikorn Suksai said. He hoped the Lampao Dam would release 1 million cubic metres of water a day for 10 days to help the river recover. Suwanna Naewtawit, a 47-year-old farmer, said the drought was the worst in 20 years. “And this is just the start of the dry season. What will happen next?” she asked. Must be the same agency that assured Thais that there would be no flooding in Petchaburi - just before the flooding.
