Hi guys:

I was wondering if you could help me out with some information. I am a UK citizen – just 35, male and married officially to a Thai for the past few months. My current tourist visa is running out in a few weeks.

I heard that Penang and Laos are only handing out single 3 month non-o visas for those married.

I read that I can apply for a multi-entry in Singapore if I can show 400,000. Currently, my bank balance falls just short of that sum, but by the time I leave for Singapore I would have got the money owed to me through and have just enough.

If I go to apply in Singapore, will they accept that the 400,000 has been in the account for like a couple of months? or that the account has just met that amount a few days prior? The rest will be deposited just before I leave.

I read it only takes 24 hours, is that right, at 5,000 baht. I’ll need to take my wife’s ID, signed, but she doesn’t need to go, right.

I do hope you can give me answers soon, as I’ll have to book my flight to Singapore and back very soon.

Thanks in advance…..

Hi,

I used Singapore last year and it was fine, but hard to say now. My most recent Non-Imm O, I obtained in of all places, Pakistan, and that was a breeze.

As to what you will need, a partial list includes:

- copy of marriage certificate (get it officially translated into English as well)

- copy of wife's ID (signed)

- copy of bank book

- a letter from the bank attesting to the amount and signed by an officer there might be a good idea as well

- copy of house book if you have one is also a good idea

Basically, Thai bureaucracy, like all such entities, loves paperwork and lots of it. Take as much relevant paperwork as you can.

Last I was there, they were quite efficient and professional, and yes, it was a 24 hour process. Get on an early flight that will allow you to be there when they open and if it is approved, you will have it back the next afternoon.

I am sure there are better informed people here that will suggest other paperwork as well.

Best of Luck,

Dr. B

Believe both KL and Singapore are current local options for multi entry. Singapore has a bank account check but there should not be any time requirement for the funds. Normal Thai marriage certificate does not have to be translated. Believe ID card copy signed by wife is only current extra paperwork required but always good to have copy of her home register just in case. Normal application morning and pickup next workday afternoon. Consulates normally observe both local and Thai national holidays.
