I’m planning to go Thailand and find a temple to stay for about 4 and 5 month. My plan is this, I get to Thailand with 1 month tourist visa, find a temple to stay, and apply for extension visa as long as it can. Do I have to cross the border to extend my visa? Is this easy to extend for 4 month?

Is that looks right?

What nationality are you? tourist visas will give you 2 months +1 month extension if you are from one of most western countries.

From what I have read. Iranian passport holders must apply for a visa at the Thai embassy in Iran only. You cannot apply at an embassy in any other country. You must have a visa to enter Thailand (visa free entry or VOA is not possible).

If you get a tourist visa you will be given 1 month on entry to stay, you should be able to extend it in country at any immigration office for B1900 & a passport photo. It will give you another 30 days.

It's not possible for you to do visa runs to get extra time so it seems you will have to return to Iran after 2 months to get another visa.

If you could get a double entry tourist visa then you could leave Thailand and re-enter for another 30 + 30 days when the first entry expired provided you could enter a neighbouring country freely.

Unless (and you must speak to the Thai embassy in Teheran) you can get a Non Imm visa based on studying Buddhism but you will have to be involved in a proper training course not just sitting in a temple passing time.

I stress this is posted based on what I have read and my experience of getting visas for Thailand and I'm not Iranian.
