Fire Woman Dies in House Fire in Bangkok’s Charan Sanitwong Area
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A house fire on the morning of 23 July, has claimed the life of a 72-year-old woman in the Charan Sanitwong area of Bangkok. The victim was found unresponsive after apparently succumbing to smoke inhalation, lying near a household Buddhist shrine. A pet dog was also found dead beside her. Police were alerted to the blaze at around 06:00. Pol Sub-Lt Wirat Mentakul of Bangkok Noi Police Station led emergency responders, including firefighters, medics from Siriraj Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, to the scene in the Bang Khun Si subdistrict of Bangkok Noi. The fire occurred in a single-storey residence, which was heavily smoke-logged when authorities arrived. Firefighters quickly ventilated the structure, where they discovered the deceased woman, named Ms. Suntharalak, lying unconscious on the floor. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a preliminary investigation, the fire is believed to have started due to an electrical short circuit involving an extension cable, which ignited nearby bedding and furniture. The woman is thought to have died from smoke inhalation before she could escape. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and to confirm whether faulty wiring was solely to blame. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-07-24 -

Accident Nine Injured in Songthaew and Pickup Truck Collision in Nonthaburi
Picture courtesy of Kaoded. Nine people were injured in an early morning collision between a songthaew and a pickup truck in Nonthaburi province, northwest of Bangkok. Emergency services rushed to the scene after the crash, which occurred at approximately 05:00, on the outbound side of Kanchanaphisek Road near the Bua Thong Thani housing estate in Bang Bua Thong district. According to police from Bang Bua Thong Police Station and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, the collision involved a blue-and-white Toyota songthaew registered in Nonthaburi and a silver Toyota pickup truck (licence plate from Bangkok). The songthaew was operating on a route between Sai Noi and Bang Bua Thong Market and had nine passengers on board, eight women and one man. The force of the impact left the songthaew damaged on the driver’s side and caused it to veer off the road and into a roadside drainage ditch. Some of the injured passengers managed to exit the vehicle unaided, while others had to wait for rescuers to provide first aid before being taken to four area hospitals: Bang Bua Thong Hospital, Krungthai Western Hospital, Kasemrad Rattanatibeth Hospital and Pak Kret 2 Hospital. The pickup truck was found approximately 100 metres from the crash site with visible front-left collision damage. Mr. Wallop Chamnarnphon, 56, the songthaew driver, said he was transporting passengers from Sai Noi when the pickup truck, which had been in the right-hand lane, suddenly cut across into his lane and struck his vehicle, sending it off the road. The pickup truck driver, Mr. Chainares Khwansuk, 44, claimed that he had swerved left to avoid a motorcycle that abruptly cut in front of him from the left side. He stated that this evasive manoeuvre unintentionally caused him to collide with the minibus. Police have recorded statements from both drivers and documented the scene. Officers said CCTV footage from nearby locations will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. Further interviews with both drivers are also scheduled.
