How one community in smoggy Lampang gets rid of all its waste without burning anything

Here's a scheme that needs to be heavily promoted throughout Thailand before it gets buried in its own garbage, perhaps some of the tank, sub money could be diverted, na, wishful thinking.

I agree wholeheartedly, this is a great initiative and others need to be encouraged to follow suit, plus make some money out of it. Which will be the main incentive for them.

Smog in Chiang Mai today is about as bad as it ever gets.

They're really burning the surrounding forests.

All this needs now is to be promoted throughout the country starting at schools so the children can help educate their parents and let it spread from there.  I have no idea why the leaves are burnt every year because they can be added to the compost pile.  In Toronto, the fallen leaves are bagged by householders every fall and the city collects the bags and takes them away and deposits them in locations where they are left to decompose.  People can go and take the stuff when it has broken down and use it on their gardens at home.  Also, all houses and apartments have Blue Boxes to collect the recyclables and the garbage collectors have special trucks and go around picking up the stuff.  It is separated at source and put into different sections of the trucks and is taken and recycled.  Any money goes toward helping the city council with a variety of projects.  Also, it does provide employment for a few people who might otherwise be on benefits.

Another scheme that was started at a school in one village a few years ago was the collection of buffalo dung which was allowed to decompose and sold as manure when it was ready.  Rather like ZOOPOO.  Have not been able to find any followup on the school project.
