This might be a stupid question, but…

I got my multi-entry marriage visa from Savannakhet last week, no problems. While waiting for the consular office to open I got chatting to some guys, as you do. When I mentioned I'll be flying back to UK next month, one of them said I'll still need a re-entry permit.

The guys meant well but that can't be right can it? I thought you have a single-entry visa (or extension) and re-entry permit, OR a M-E visa.

I know most people with a M-E use the full 90 days before leaving the country, not just a few weeks, but I'm hoping that won't cause concerns at Immigration when I return in May.

I also noticed on the Vientiene version of the application form there's a box at the bottom, 'Number of entries requested'.

What? Is there a maximum number of times we can re-enter on a M-E visa?

Thanks.

Ps - Also thanks to all the guys who've written about getting a visa at Savannakhet. Everything worked as advertised (for now?).

Assuming you ME visa is still valid (enter before date has not passed) when you return, no re-entry permit needed.

No limit to how many times you can enter.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Not sure who you were talking to but they were wrong. Probably confusion with extension of stay and visas.

A re-entry permit is not needed if you have a multiple entry visa.

That is old stuff on the form. That would be going back to when tourist visa were issued as 1, 2 or 3 entries. If you were able to get a multiple entry visa there you would put M or multiple there.

The visa allows unlimited 90 day enteris for one year from the date issued.

This is what frequently happens when individuals don't understand the difference between a Visa and an Extension.

Under the 'number of entries' on the Visa, if it has the letter 'M', it's Multiple entries.

If it has the letter 'S', it's a single entry.

Extensions don't allow any entries, you have to purchase a single or multiple re-entry permit separately.
