The 2016 Referendum took the Establishment by surprise, because the Leave vote was unexpected and unanticipated (and so the lack of preparation for Leave is one of the problems which the Tory government has been battling with ever since).

 

That said, should another referendum be held, what if the Establishment is again taken by surprise because a Leave vote is once more in the ascendancy?

 

That would be 2 out of 3.  Should the goal posts be moved again, to attempt to make it best out of 5 so that the remain vote wins? 

 

Democracy is not a moving target.  The vote was held, and the Brexiteers won it; it is hard to swallow perhaps, for the Remainers, but it is a fact, and the British Parliament voted last night AGAINST another referendum.

 

The Democrats in the USA have the same denial over the Trump victory.

 

But denial, as we know, is a river in Egypt, and doesn't help a "loser's" cause.  Best now to make the best of a poor job!

They didn't - it was about 37% of the electorate. And the brexiters resorted to so  many lies and illegalities that the whole thing would have been annulled had it been decisive. But it was only advisory.

The authenticity of the petitioners - I was one - has been checked. Opinion polls show most people now want remain - sensible as any brexit leaves us worse off, except BINO which is rather pointless.

False votes are removed. I watch the numbers go up, then fall back,then go up again. Presently just shy of 6 million. It's no joke. It's real.

What actually happens is up to Parliament now, and they are taking notice. But like leave voters different factions in Parliament have different ideas of what brexit should look like. Interesting times, but bad for my pocket as one totally dependent on the currency exchange market. That alone tells us Brexit is bad for Britain. Plenty more evidence too if you look.

Parliament has rejected the deal that is on the table (the one and only deal that the EU is prepared to offer.

 

Parliament has voted not to leave the EU without a deal.

 

MPs appear to be just digging themselves a deeper hole . . .

The EU has only done what it could in view of May's red lines. There is a deal, but nobody in the UK wants it.

Why would there be an online poll for leaving? No endorsement of the referendum result is required. The Cameron Government advised it was a one-off and irrevocable.

There is a widely held "remoaner" view that the British "Leave" voter had no idea about what they were voting for because they were stupid, or uneducated, or elderly, but not "switched on" and in the know, like the remain camp.

 

You have now endorsed this concept, in that you believe that a bus painted with a sign which says "350 million pounds extra to the NHS, each week" was soooooo convincing to those stupid voters that, ignoring everything else, the overwhelming majority of them were taken in, and supported Brexit, and the clever remain voters had no way to counter it.

Doesn't matter what I think of Brexit, the benefit or otherwise now is irrelevant. What is important is that democracy is under threat when parliament isn't willing to carry out the mandate of the people and that is to leave the EU, with or without a so-called deal. I'm suffering from the lousy exchange rate, but there's no way I'll sign this treacherous petition. I'd rather beg on the streets. If you post one calling for most of our MPs to be locked up for dereliction of duty, I'll sign that.

Ridiculous statement and total lies. Leavers DO know what they want and have done since before the referendum, it's parliament that refuses to carry out the wishes of the of the 17.4 million people who voted that way and were the majority in the people's vote.
