Fugazi or not.

I have just purchased this painting off eBay. A Certificate of Authenticity came with it with a reference from the originating art Gallery. So I contacted the gallery and the auction house; one in Alice Springs and one in Sydney.

The reception I got from OzBid, the auction house was like I had committed a crime for asking if the painting was a fake. This was after the Gallery had said it was. It is by a prominent Aboriginal artist. Also I found out both parties have axes to grind against each other.

I am a retired valuer (real Estate) and auctioneer. If I put something on my letter head or sign something I am letting you know you can buy with confidence; to me my own creditability is sacred and I won't mess around with it.

So I put this out there to the TV community, as to experiences with COA's and say similar experience's. Since purchasing this item last Monday, I have also asked 2 experts in the field as to the possible authenticity of the artwork and the person who sold the artwork. I still have 30 days to go back thru eBay, if it turns up as a Fugazi or fake. I like the work very much and in terms of its size and the artist it supposed to be by, could turn out to be worth the money spent. It was to be a gift to my mum.

Also be careful if you come across this particular Auction house from Sydney, Australia.

Have it professionally appraised by a reputable Sydney appraiser, ( one whom you  a pay a fee for their expertise ) Carpe Diem

To Fugazi...or not to Fugazi...that is the question...????

Al read your bio on your home page. Sorry about the tragedy in your life. I can relate to a lot of what you described as who you are.

I am retired 10 years ago due to illness. I am 61. I can't see myself travelling overseas again as I run out of energy and become ill.

As a hobby and distract the stinking thinking that comes with being bed bound 60% of my time I started looking at aboriginal Art. Some of it is very striking, colourful and spiritual. I am not a religious person, but some of these paintings are like maps to hint of landmarks where one may find food, shelter and water. This is in the inner most parts of central Australia. Deseret and <deleted>@king hot. Most of the work has a message.

A friend of mine is from the stolen generation. His paintings depict his journey and treatment in his life. He gives a lot to the community. Teaches traditional art in local schools. A good community man.

The works I have range from $550 to $8,000 AU. Even at these prices I am still at wholesale price levels. Unfortunately I have run out of wall space.

Its a shame that people don't want to understand cultural differences. They remain on a bar stool.

Cheers Al

I agree entirely. Even as a cultural expression it is primitive and meaningless, the random childish swipes of someone unfamiliar with concepts such as perspective.

I dont quite get your point. Crap is crap, good is good (and in that gallery above there is a good one, btw) and if I poop in a Chippindale Gravy Boat and Call it "Breakfast at Trumps" it doesnt make me an artist.

But art is in the eye of the beholder, enjoy. Your money.

What's your point to contributing towards this post? The link above is for Molly's sister' paintings. Both are primitive artists, with their art having a story. Minnie's art has sold in London for a couple of hundred thousand pounds.

Well you know what they say at Millwall; "maybe you have just had that one kick too many in the head."

Your a troll, mate.
