Police claim they have sufficient evidence against Thanathorn

Thanathorn-Campaign-Trail.jpg

Deputy national police chief has claimed that police have sufficient evidence to support the sedition charge filed against Future Forward party leader Thanathorn Jungroongruangkit.

Pol Gen Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul also insisted that police have not been ordered by anyone to take legal action against the firebrand party leader or intend to discredit him, but they are simply performing their duty to investigate an incident which allegedly took place on the night of June 24, 2015 in which Thanathorn was allegedly involved.

Asked why the legal action against Thanathorn was being taken in the aftermath of the general election, the deputy national police chief claimed that the delay was caused by three changes of the chief investigator in the case, starting with Pol Maj-Gen Thawitchart Palasak, deputy commissioner of Metropolitan Police, then Pol Maj-Gen Preecha Charoensahainont, deputy commissioner of Metropolitan Police and, most recently, Pol Col Thamanoon Boonruang, superintendent of Pathumwan police, who decided to pursue the case after having sifted through a backlog of pending cases.

The sedition charge against Thanathorn relates to an incident in front of Pathumwan police station where a demonstration took place in 2015.

Saw THAT coming from a mile away. Real change involves prison and bloodshed. Thai people are simply not miserable enough.

they have that for all the generals too .

the most honorary job wtith in any police is to make all equal of the law .

Why stop there? charge him for urination in public 10 years ago, say you have witness and a sample of his urine too, that will send him to ail for a few years or until he learn to to meddle in Thai politics where he's not belong...utterly ridiculous...

Chances are that because of this guys obvious intelligence and popularity orders have come from the top to get him out of the picture, I tend to think that this latest move could backfire on them.

This redefines "coincidental timing".

Police claim they have sufficient evidence?

Surely it should say police have made up sufficient evidence.

Police say they are only doing their duty :cheesy: first time for them.

Truly disgraceful. The notion of playing fair is one they simply don't understand here do they? Someone comes along who is popular with the voters, but not someone liked by those in power, and surprise, surprise, they get stitched up on phony charges. Anyone want to bet on the party being dissolved too once they find him guilty, a verdict which is absolutely guaranteed?

  • Popular Post

So when can we expect the police to do their job and issue an arrest warrant for treason to the people who staged the last coup?

I wish some brave citizen would file a charge of blatant vote buying by Phalang Phacharat with the police and have that party dissolved.

Can't understand why nobody has done this as it was so widespread and blatant.

I believe that it has already been mentioned but I think if this charge was pursued, it could very well backfire against the "person" who is seen as being behind the rejuvenated effort.

And as for this statement "the delay was caused by three changes of the chief investigator", perhaps the same should apply to the Red Bull boy case. Surely there must have been some investigator changes in all that time !

The issue about supplying a car is so far a stretch,

If I lend my car bus or truck or what ever vehicle to a person then the onus of what they do with that car  or vehicle is upon them, the borrower,

sure libel in  a case lending to some one who is inebriated, this is not the case here.

If I borrow a car and go to the city and have an accident it becomes my responsibility, if the owner of that car has insurance that is  his or her responsibility.

The clouding of truths and miss information, is clear here

, it is a wonder that article 44 is not enforced on such a political threat.

This would be exactly the right time for the British Embassy (I speak only of my own country) to invite Thanathorn for a well publicised meeting with the Ambassador.

peace and ORDER!!!!!!

The sedition charge against Thanathorn relates to an incident in front of Pathumwan police station where a demonstration took place in 2015.  Pol Gen Srivara said Thanathorn and his mother Mrs. Somporn were accused of helping demonstrators escape in a passenger van belonging to Mrs. Somporn.

So the sedition charge comes from allegedly helping people "escape" a protest 4 years ago.

It is just a coincidence that the charges are levelled after an election and a few years before the statute of limitations kicks in.

Of course the police have been investigating this incident for some time. He would have been charged regardless of his current status politically or otherwise. Nothing to do with his being a thorn in the side of the junta.

Don't hold your breath. Cardiff will win the champions league before those wimps at the British Embassy do anything so risky. Jobsworths one and all.

Recall also that  the military coup of May 2014 replaced the National Police Commissioner with a member of NCPO and, thereafter, all police authority became subservient to the NCPO.

So it would seem under the veil of independent police authority that the RTP would act in concert with and to the support of the NCPO's charge of sedition.

Also remember that in May 2015 NCPO leader Prayut promised elections in circa September 2016. https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/thai-elections-pushed-back-to-sept-2016-junta

As a run up to the election it might behoove the NCPO to prepare in mid-2015 potential disqualifiers for office by potential candidates, ie., known junta opponents.

Backfire. This junta stunt will backfire just as loud as any little Thai putt putt motorcycle with tricked up exhaust in Issanville on a hot Saturday night.

The groundswell of support just won't swallow it.

Unfortunately this always happens when you get a Maj-Gen to do a Pol Maj-Gen's job its only a near 4 year delay and all perfectly normal????

Who can believe?

It’s true! Because the police here always kowtow like dogs to the current people in power!
Actually police should be charged with dereliction of duty and waste of tax payers money for bringing BS charges 4 years later!

If the Junta push their collective luck too far they might just make the new guy a martyr figure..

that would not be in their best interests !

All trumped up of course
