"Big Fatty" has spoken! Top cop gives his do's and dont's for Songkran 2019

Sanook reported that the deputy commissioner of the RTP had ordered police nationwide to ensure safety of the public during the upcoming Songkran celebrations.

They referred to Pol Gen Chalermkiat Srivorakan as "Big Uap" (the big fat or plump one).

Big Uap had had a conference call with his top generals on Tuesday and decided the following:

Don'ts:

No high powered water guns to be used

No ice in the water

No dirty water to be thrown

No drinking alcohol on the back of pick-ups

No shooting guns in the air

No alcohol sales to under 18s

Do's

Dress nicely and not in a revealing manner

Throw water from pick-ups is OK but please, please do it nicely

Big Fatty said that 5,000 tourists were expected at Songkran parties in Bangkok in Khao San Road, Silom, RCA and Asiatique.

Upcountry it would be especially busy in Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Hat Yai at Songkran events in those cities where special help centers will be set up.

He is determined that the public would be safe and the lid was kept on crime.

Culture note:

Thaivisa notes that the term "Big" is often used to denote key public officials especially in the police and politics.

In this sense big means important figure.

One former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh was known as "Big Jiew" (Big Tiny). The head of immigration these days is called "Big Joke".

PM Prayut is known as "Big Tu". Tu means to grab by force.

Fine! I'll wait 'til after Song Kran and fire my gun in the air then.

Is there less chance of this being a problem if you're unattractive and/or old?

No shooting guns in the air? That's probably under the assumption, the general solves the pollution within his set 7 days ????. Great stuff!

How do these qualify as "Do's" Mr Big Fatty?

Edited by Bluespunk

Masks will be issued to incoming revelers at Chiang Mai airport, train and bus stations.

Pattaya, Chonburi

This tourist-attracted district of Chonburi celebrates Songkran on April 19 every year; it is called Wan Lai Pattaya festival. On the fun-filled day, you will get a chance to see Buddha image elaborate procession along the famous Pattaya beach, where you can participate in the ritual bathing by gently splash the Buddha image with clean and scented water. There are also Thai cultural performances, mouth-watering street food and water splashing by the beach to enjoy.

Or you get to experience the water version of fighting ISIS in Syria. Gently splashing with a high powered pvc tube capable of flushing your brain matter out the eye sockets.

Agreed. The driver should always be in the cab when drinking....

Dont forget to announce the rules with banning people in the back of pick-up trucks without seatbelt during songkran.

The police will rigorously enforce these rules. ????

Do's in the back of a pickup has been covered by outraging public decency Said Mr Nowthin????

Shows that you need no competence to be a top cop in Thailand. The legal age for purchase of alcohol is 20. ????

His nick name has nothing to do with his physical appearance.  It describes how he likes his envelopes.

Talk about false information and out right lies. Shameful really. Like you said, it’s literally a war.

I know it’s a legit visa but it comes off as being scammy as shady. Their email correspondence, advertising, newsletters, all of it. They are trying too hard to paint a picture of Thailand that doesn’t exist.

Of course they do, and why wouldn’t they? Who’s going to do something if they don’t? This swollen face dinosaur? I doubt it.

No ice would be a welcome change if enforced. I always figured that some high up policemen owned the ice companies.
