“Most Democrats want to join Palang Pracharat-led coalition”

A group of Democrat party members, including several former MPs and newly-elected candidates, want the party to join a pro-Prayut Palang Pracharat coalition government, according to Democrat party deputy leader Thavorn Senniam.

The group of about 30 party members, including former party leader and now chief party advisor Chuan Leekpai, attended a 4-hour meeting at the party’s head office to discuss whether the party should join the Palang Pracharat-led alliance or remain independent, as proposed by some of the party’s younger members.

Thavorn told the media that most of the meeting participants want the party to join Palang Pracharat so that the party’s policies can be implemented. He claimed that about half of those who favour the alliance have demanded that the party announce its stance before May 9 when the Election Commission is expected to finalizes the March-24 election results.

They have never been interested in what was good for Thailand.  Even getting brushed aside by military, they still want to be their lap dog.   If that happens, Mark will never have any respect outside of Thailand.

Today is the 73rd anniversary of The Democrat party. Chuan took the opportunity to remonstrate with Thaworn and say no resolution has been passed by the party yet as to their stance post election.

I wasn't initially going to respond to this thread, but somehow I couldn't resist.

Whilst it is no surprise what this article seems to claim. When one thinks about it, it is however the wrong thing to do from a ideologic and credibility standpoint. How could a political party calling themselves the democrats support a possible coalition (which even with the support of the democrats cannot count on a majority) where the main party openly supports and nominates a dictator as PM ? There is nothing democratic about Prayuth or his party.

But besides the ideologic angle, this party has campaigned with the promise to not join such a coalition, therefore simply betraying the 3 million souls that still voted for the party.

Maybe the smart thing to do is remain neutral, maybe that way, the next election would still get a result in the millions instead of in the thousands.

This is why the Democrat vote collapsed. People know where they stand, and the people who wanted to vote for the military just voted directly for the military.
