How to get a new Tourist visa?

Featured Replies

Hello.

I'm a bit confused about the options to get an new TR visa.

Actually I have an single entry Tourist visa and this is already extended for 30 days. So I have to left Thailand on April, 29th.

So I have to flight to Cambodia, stay for 3 days, get an new TR and fly back - or is there any other (cheaper) way to get an new TR visa (60 days)? The border visa run with bus is only possible for visa with multiple entries?

Cheers

Zeno

The embassy in Phnom Penh is not good choice for getting a single entry tourist visa. It may take more than 3 days to get it.

Vientiane Laos is a good choice and you can travel to there overland and cross the bridge at Nong Khai. Savannakhet Laos is also a good choice.

If you qualify for a 30 day visa exempt entry you can do a border run to get one. Just avoid going to the Poi Pet crossing to Cambodia to do it. You can do up to 2 of them at a land border crossing per calendar year.

So, I don't need to leave/entry through Airport? My informations was, I got only an 15 day visa when I use the land border. To get an 60 day Tourist visa I need to fly.

I did this a few years ago every 3 month. I fly to Cambodia, get visa, fly back and after 60 days I extend for 30 days at the Immigartion in Bangkok. That's around 450 Euros every 3 month - only for stay here.

So I wonder if there some cheaper solutions.

If you are under 50, not married, and not (legally) working here - no other options. Maybe Education visa but that would also cost money and time. Not sure how you're calculating 450 Euros though, flight and hotels for 3 nights should be more like half of that.

The 15 days at border crossing was rescinded over 2 years ago when the order limiting visa exempt entries to 2 per calendar year went into  effect.

You would be lucky if you could get more than 2 tourist visas in Phnom Phen now.

under 50

I'm already over 50 - but I did not reach the minimum monthly income and also have not that required budget for the bank account.

Education visa

I was thinking about. Around 3 years ago I ask at the Immigration for an list of certified schools - but it's not possible to get something like this.

Ok, maybe a few Euros less ... But Flight (~ 100 Euros), Cambodian visa (~ 25 Euros), Thai visa (~ 35 Euros), 30 days Visa extention (~ 50 Euros), Hotel (~ 60 Euros) - that's already around 270 Euros ... plus food, transportations, ...

2 tourist visas in Phnom Phen

So I have to take my focus to the ED visa for the future ...

Bus to Ban Laem. 30 day stamp. Next tourist visa not in Phnom Penh. Vietnam or Burma could be ok

Take tour bus or minivan to mukdahan bus station then buy bus ticket to savanakhet.

Don't get cheaper or easier than this for regional setv, prepare docs for visa in advance although can do opposite consulate but waste of money for p155 poor advice/service .

I've done round trip from bkk including visa fee, hotel etc for under 4K baht and enjoyed the trip, savanakhet not that bad if get off your butt & go out for a meal and a lao beer, avoid tuk-tuks or at least only pay them a dollar or 2, no need use them go consulate or back to border as bus station just up road from consulate, people waste good money being driven about in atuk-tuk in a rush for absolute no reason .
